FINISH THIS FOR GODS SAKE

Post by pagan »

ok i want to get my interior done, i was gonna get my missus to do it, i have searched and read every topic on these forums about it.... OK NOW!!!
(by the way the search engine is full of sh*t)

everytime some one asks how its done, many replies say just go to a pro and he will do it for $100... is this true or BULLSHIT. firstly... i believe it would cost more then that for his labour alone, with pulling the car apart, painting and re assembling everything, then the paint itself, more costly the better the paint. $100 is too cheap i belive even for cartoon stock standard white blue red whatever. if this is true then why doesnt some one post WHERE to get it done, an upolsterer maybe i dont know, maybe a spacific place in every state or only the relevent one for the original poster, but no, no one has a response for where THEY got it done. is this the i wont say coz i want to be original, or i wont say coz im just full of sh*t and heard a friend of a friends cousins brother in law, second sons mate said so.... finish this damned topic so that if some one wants to get the interior done they can do it without continuasly posting on it coz they never get an answer...

why have i gone rank you ask... coz i need to bloody know and feel like a twit posting YET ANOTHER interior paint job post.

if anyone has paid to have this done in melbourne, where and for how much... PLEASEEEEEEE for CHRISTS SAKE tell me and anyone else wanting to know.

thank you

ps. dont tell me to calm down coz i am calm, hense why i was able to write the post at all, if i wasnt calm.... well lets just say i was... ok... hmmm. i know it comes across harsh but it should sound more desperate then anything

The results from the search will only be as good as the information you type in. If you're getting sh*t results, you're typing in sh*t information. If you're not getting the results you want you may want to try the additional commands (AND, OR, NOT, *) to make your search more (or less) specific. If you're still not getting the info you're after, it's probably not on this forum

If you're refering to getting parts of your dash sprayed, then you don't want an upholsterer! Most people who do this either do it themselves with a $15 spray can or get their local panel beater / work shop to do it. If you want the panel beater to pull your dash apart and put it back together again, then yes, it will cost you more than $100. But you'll normally find that those who get a panel beater to do it have already pulled the dash / piece they want sprayed out so all the panel beater needs to do is spray it.

The most common parts people get sprayed are the centre console and the face plate around the main dials. Both of these are easy to pull out and they'd be no need to pay a panel beater to do it for you.

If you wan't to get your seats re-trimmed then go to an upholsterer / trimming place, depending upon whether you get cloth, velour, suede or leather the price will be anything from $500 - $2,500.

If you come along to the next meet you'll be able to see a number of different interiors and ask the owners first hand who, what, where, how and why

your most likely using the wrong search button!

thats what i was doing anyway, dont use the one from the main menu... there is a much smaller search area..

if people dont answer your questions its generally b/cos they dont have the exact answer and are just trying to help with what they can.....

in terms of the cost... its not expensive!

case (1) my friends mirage was completely done in silver. Door handles, tach surrounds, a/c areas, all the dash etc.

(2) my best friends buddy has just had his wrx done, apparently they have used a paint similar to the work done in the new alfas and monaro's. It looks like a brush aluminium. They did a 2004 rex for $130.

Now....before you say, i dont want to hear about mates mates etc etc, I am actually chasing this guy up at the moment, and awaiting a phone call back so i can find out who did the job.

Its a great mod, but i guess very important that the job is done well, as a tacky paint work would ruin one of the ftos great assets (its interior!).

will get back to you when i find more.

I hope u using primer & paints that are specially for car interior. If not they will either fade, crack or peel off after a while.

Thanks for the kind comments pagan - I like to help out where possible but I'm usually beaten to it by other members.

It seems a bit strange that they didn't want to touch the top rubber part of the centre console as that is the part that turned out the best of my bits that were painted. Mine turned out the smoothest and glossiest of everything done and I am still impressed with it nearly a year later. Still has no signs of deterioration either.

ok im still going, the colour i have chosen are regency red, antelope met and champaigne glow, the champaigne and antelope are very similer, so im homeing it will give the dash a 3d look, if you know what i mean, the regency red i have put on the large console legs which go under the dash and the large plastic piece on the door, thats it, the rest is a mixture of the other two colours. its a gamble and the colours are very beautiful, all three are rich but not strong on the eye, the type of colours you might find on mercs or austin martin style half million doller cars. it may not go perfectly with the current red exterior, but thats ok coz im getting a respray and the colours on the inside will match THAT exterior colour i have chosen. the rubber peice on top of the consile came up brilliant, and i even flexed and proded it, no problem, you have to get a flexible paint that will adhere and BEND with a rubber surface. i chose POWERPLUS paints, becasue they work well on plastic car interior and they have a wicked selection of colours. the guy in the auto barn done his WRX which was outside, 9 months ago and when i looked at his car it was still in TOP condition. im hopeing i can do a job half as good as he did. DIY as well that is.

ill have pics as soon as im done for you all to see

barfy that is sh*t hot!!!

thanx bro that is IMHO the best interior design ive seen yet, i shall definatly try something in that type format next shot at it.

ok the interior came up pretty sweet, only while i was installing i scratched a few spots  so i will be trying again. although the colours came up sweet, i believe the clear coat i used was pretty poor. after 4 coats the paint was far too easily scratched. if i was to throw some coins into the little centre holder for instance im sure they would scratch it. thats far too fragile for my liking.

EURO i shall await your findings. i agree thaqt $550 was way to high, as i was willing to take everythng out for him, and install it myself. although im sure i could do a great job next shot, knowing what i have learnt this first effort, i could never compare it to a pro job.

What the hell is a seatbelt guide? and where did you get it done? I want mine Silver too... Gloss silver? Is just like silver right? and when you say centre gearshift, your still talking about the centre console correct?

It's one of the first things I want to do with my fto, is get the thing silver...

a seatbelt guide is that plasticky thing on the side of your front passenger seats to which the seatbelts slip into... and yes they are gloss silver, along with the centre console (bottom half only) and the door lock panel...

Hey barfy,

Can you post some more, bigger pictures of your car?

I wanted to see a veilside kit on a red car but can't seem to find much...

I want to put it on mine but not sure how it looks..
So any more pics?
And bigger ones would be nice too...

Thanks,

the wrx i was talking about. It cost him $150 to get everything in his interior done (that he wanted).

I am yet to see it, as he is a very good mates friend. From all reports it looks brilliant. I just want to make sure it looks more like a 'brushed alloy' then a spray can paint.

im getting the details of the place emailed through to me today.
