New member looking for advice
Hey everyone,
its looking very likely that i'll be purchasing a GPX in the next few days and selling my mx3. I have a few questions before I do however.
The owner is selling it for 1500, which is obviously very cheap. he says it works fine and that he just wants it gone from his workshop. I am a little bit sceptical about this however. I want to get it checked before I buy it but but the workshop next to his is owned by one of his friends so he might not tell me the full story about it to help is mate out.
It has done 230,000 kms (are there many problems at this age) and there is some damage to the left bumper with some rust on it.
I've read the advice members have given to others on here in regards as to what to look for so I wont ask you to repeat it all haha, but in your opinions does $1500 sound way to good to be true? and if so how much would basic repairs cost if it needed it (such as timing belt etc)
thanks a lot guys, nd hopefully I can have my own fto to enjoy soon

Re: New member looking for advice
Hey,
Where is the car located? I or one of the other members may be able to have a look if its close.
Obviously don't buy the car without starting it up and driving it first. $1,500 is cheap but you can get decent FTOs for that much if you know what to look for. All just depends whats wrong with it.
230,000kms is a lot, but if it has been looked after and taken care of it might be ok. Especially if most KMs are highway driven.
On the other hand, it might be a pile of junk

Re: New member looking for advice
Im in Canberra, dont know the chances of anyone else being here haha
yea i'll need to get a temporary registration thing for it so I can drive it around. Is there common things to look out for whilst driving? loud bumps and noises are obvious ones but anything specific? I heard mivec kicks in round 5500rpms and to look for that, anything else?
thanks for the reply

Re: New member looking for advice
Correct, Mivec at 5,500. Although it wont kick in unless engine is warm. Rev limiter is 5,000 when not at operating temp.
Look for roof rust on the outside of the roof along the edges.
Tappet noise from the engine is more annoying than anything, doesn't really do anything bad to the engine.
I actually might be down in Canberra on the 29th/30th of this month.

Yea it's 6,000rpm mate, I know because I was having issues with my Mivec for awhile so I know what it sounds like if it will and if it wont engage mivec according to the note of the engineDaniel2019 wrote:Are you sure?Vectose wrote:Cold limiter is actually 6,000Daniel2019 wrote:Rev limiter is 5,000 when not at operating temp.
There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others
