CSV & I just wanted to send you this link to an online petition on Petition Spot, SERIOUS NEWS -- 15 Year Rule WILL CHANGE ON 1 JAN 2005. For those of you who don't know click the link it will tell you more please help!

Thats a bugger for you guys if they change it. Over here we pretty much take our very liberal Japanese import laws for granted, but then again we don't have a local car industry to 'protect'.

Funnily enough, NZ has gone the other way - you practically can't import any car now older than around 1996 (with a few exceptions such as the FTO - any of those can be imported).

I hope for your guys sake it doesn't get any more restrictive, otherwise you'll miss out on some of the cool machinery that we have and enjoy.

Unfortunatly I have word that we may be too late, DOTARS has supposdly already decided on the rule and is now just awaiting to announce it, Off the subject but equally as frustrating Carl Scully has decided to bring in lots of "great" new laws for P platers like No V8's, Turbo's or Superchrgers. No more than 1 passenger, etc etc!

It,s getting like that over here in the U.K.It look's like the end of the FTO as an import......
But we can have Holden's,well the Monaro, and some sort of pick up truck with a big V8

But I really feel that the changes occuring to the 15 year rule are wrong!
Plan and simple....
Making it more difficult to import vehicles stunts the variety in the market to some degree - not to mention other indirect consequences
(I realise I'm going to an extreme here)
I was interested in importing a 'line or something else later on... The process isn't difficult and I basically know how to do it - without a broker - which means you save heaps
and already getting in a 15 year old car like a r32 at that price for that engine and specs is awesome
I don't think it makes this more difficult for the domestic market - it simply mean less variety for some as it will now cost you an arm and a leg to import some of the following:
300ZX's
R32 GTR's and Gts-t's
GTO's
MR-2's
Series 5 RX-7's
Celsiors
MX-5's
BMW's
Mercedes
180SX's
Silvia's
NSX's
Laurels
Galants
60 and 80 series Landcruisers
Safaris
Cosmos
Familias
GTiR Pulsars
JZA70 Supra

there is some hope =
Even with the changes you can still import vehicles under SEVS but that means STOCK AS !!!! and sourcing parts from Japan and US cost heaps for us aussies sometimes
Plus compliance costs will sky rocket... from what i know only one garage so far have met the requirements to bring in r32s which means they can play the market (making it harder for us buyers) by charging heaps to make up for them getting the $200K compliance plate... and they (DOTARS) are eventually going to extend the restriction to 30 year old vehicles -
so its stockies for the rest of us then unless we've got the bling bling...

Hang on a minute are you sure it's been gazetted CSV? I just had a look at today's Gazette, didn't see anything under Transport and Regional Services.

As far as I'm aware you can still import any car up to May 1990 under the 15-year rule.
