LSD effect on torque steer
Having a VR4 powered FTO I have a big issue with torque steer .. on hard throttle the car wants to pull you onto the other side of the road, even when your pointing in a straight line. I have a gearbox with LSD waiting to go on thinking it would help with the torque steer but have read that adding an LSD will make torque steer worse .. but will reduce wheelspin and help with understeer when cornering hard.
For you guys running turbo FTOs did fitting an LSD help with torque steer?
Cheers

Ah balls .. thought it would help out with it. Don't know whether it's worth bothering with it then, I haven't bought it yet and would save myself £350. I don't track the car but do take it drag racing.

I've driven a 6a13tt with open diff and didn't really torque steer, it felt slow because it was just all wheel spin in 1st and 2nd

You can iron it out a bit with suspension tweaks. Not too much neg camber & a touch of toe in can scrub off a bit of it.dazjb wrote:Ah balls .. thought it would help out with it. I also found having a front lower chassis H brace helped too. Stopped the twist.

I definitely noticed an improvement with the H brace as well.Bennoz wrote:You can iron it out a bit with suspension tweaks. I don't see why you wouldn't opt for an LSD if you could, considering you've already gone to the expense of turboing it

Re: LSD effect on torque steer
The difference you noticed was the car being slower because of all the extra weight and no turbo. :lol:bjk wrote:I definitely noticed an improvement with the H brace as well.Bennoz wrote:You can iron it out a bit with suspension tweaks. Re: LSD effect on torque steer
I was all set and looking forward to putting the LSD on but the last thing I needed was something that gave the car even worse torque steer. I'll stick it on and see how I get on .. I can always swap over the gearbox again if I don't like the result.
Will ask around on the FTOOC, see if anybody has a lower H brace going as well then look at getting the alignment sorted.

If you think a 0-60mph time of 5 seconds is slow a standard FTO must feel like a lifetime getting to that speed [emoji3]. It's all about feathering the throttle.silverGPX wrote:I've driven a 6a13tt with open diff and didn't really torque steer, it felt slow because it was just all wheel spin in 1st and 2nd

LSD doesn't just help in a straight line.
I fix cars.

Yeah I know it benefits most on corner entry/exit. Was just hoping it would tame the ditch finding torque steer a bit as well.Daniel2019 wrote:LSD doesn't just help in a straight line.

Re: LSD effect on torque steer
Sounds like you've bump steer as well as torque steer?
Torque steer should be fairly predictable.
LSD could help but I can't think why it'd make it worse. Whole point is to balance torque between the two axles.
See how you go after the LSD install.
If it does nothing it could be due to suspension geometry or uneven axle lengths. But one thing at a time
Side note, I like the horse and carriage explanation of torque steer. Somehow seems appropriate.

Re: LSD effect on torque steer
If you didn't want torque steer why did you put a 6A13 into a FWD car? Even the 6A12 torque steers a little bit..
I fix cars.

I never said I didn't want torque steer, I expected it and I said I wanted to reduce it. Who wouldn't!Daniel2019 wrote:If you didn't want torque steer why did you put a 6A13 into a FWD car? Even the 6A12 torque steers a little bit..

Some custom driveshafts is your best bet. Ones that use an intermediate shaft.

Re: LSD effect on torque steer
That's the best solution. That's what that intermediate shaft is specifically designed for.
Man up though, I say

Yep, same length driveshafts is something I could look at down the line when my engineering mate fancys a bit of a project. For now though I'm fitting the LSD, getting a 4 wheel alignment then searching for a H brace.

Re: LSD effect on torque steer
Magnas run intermediary shafts and have the same diffs as FTOs so perhaps this might not be too difficult to make work
