ok so after my mechanics researched a bit apparently my old gearbox wasnt the jap spec gearbox and the one i bought of nvr2low is the jap spec hence the different driveshafts...
they said these are usually better and could also mean i might have a lsd hmmm that would be interesting!
driveshafts have been modified and being sent from melbourne and will be going in on monday.
started her up yesterday she sounds good...
quite different sound.
after losing my licence i wish we hadve waited for dave to regrind the cams as it wouldnt have added tto the cost but now theyve everything back together so it would cost big $$$ to pull it apart.
might see if dave will help me cos if i do it and its a success im sure a few people would buy some!!!

Always thought the autos were the same. Jap spec? All our cars came from japan and made in Japan so where else could the gearbox spec have come from?

I had a HEAP of trouble with finding driveshafts to fit when I did the manual conversion. Never found out what was wrong. So I bought new LSD and had Driveshafts custom made to suit. IMO unless whoever has the gearbox/lsd then I doubt the fit will be correct.

In regards to differences in driveshafts, all FTOs have the same driveshaft. Its in the gearbox end couplings that differ in terms of spline numbers and length. From what I have found the gearboxes that run the LSD's have a slightly longer end coupling and the autos and manuals have different spline numbers (25 vs 27 I think). Oh and there is difference again whether the gearbox if from a GR or GPX. So to some up you have 5 choices for end couplings and a viable solution wont be too hard to come by if whoever is "modifying" the driveshafts has the whole gearbox or the differential.

Anyhooo, best of luck mate

theyre having issues with the driveshafts now cos the gearbox is different but i swear it shouldnt be but they showed me why so now theyre trying to sus out why...

theres a lot of things they never included in the original quote...
Not sure if you figured out the reason for the different driveshafts, as far as I remember this is due to abs.
I had a similar problem during manual conversion as my fto has abs.
I remember I have taken a photo of the different shafts, somewhere in the old pics, will check it out for you.

i don't see how a car having abs or not would affect which gearbox it had...
Nvr2low what year and which model fto do you have?

alrighty so been awhile for the latest update but not a lot has gone on.
still waiting on the bars from japan which are currently in melbourne trying to sort out the cheapest freight to get them down here so i can sell them!!!

the car is back together and everything is put in, minus the cams of course. the cams, verniers and stock manifold are being sent back to RPW so that means another $1,100 in the bank which means ill only need another $2,000 untill i can get my car back.
started her up she sounds soooo good. engine is in such good condition and no noisy tappets or anything.

the driveshafts have been made and are in but still not sure whether the gearbox has an lsd for the reason of the driveshafts being different they havent tested it. The car is still at the mechanics just waiting to be tuned. so not sure about performance figures yet.

its looking as if i may still be keeping it unless i get a good offer for it.
Just Cars has agreed to cover the car for $19,500 which i think is a bit little cos you could never buy and fto then do everything i have done for that price. but that is a decent amount so that also helps in the fight to keep my car. so yeah thats the latest. 2 months to go until i have my licence back so ill definitely have her back by then.

there is still hope the cams might be able to go in. a mate of mines brother is a mechanic and might be able to do it for cheap. how difficult is it to swap the cams over? obviously ill need to take it to be tuned somewhere but i really want to get these cams in! or even Bennoz mate u keen to come down? hahaha nit of a ask i know but its worth a try :)

only lame thing is
insurance = $2,100 with a $2,000 excess
or $3,024 with a $900 excess
rego = $550
Mechanic = $4,000

and its all due now!!!
:( plus i only have $1,000 at the moment :(

tough financial times indeed

except half way through november ive got a full time job getting around $700 a week so that'll really help!

i just read on the following link
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... c&p=134659

that a harness can be purchased specifically for the fto...
this would mean i don't have to buy the injector and ignition harness. does this harness actually exist? would it be worth buying?
or should i just buy the two separate harnesses?

the existing universal harness ahs also ben wired in as well.

SOME ONE HELP ME!

oh and bennoz how much for those 6a12 vernier you said that take ages to get? made by whom?

alright since everything was lost since i got my car back ill give u a bit of an update!!!
anyways

got the car back finally and it was insane. so much more power than before the handling is incredible, only thing holding it back is not so great tyres, brakes well, although i would like to upgrade to the hsv kit or gto brakes somewhere down the line. but yeah still havent done a dyno run and its not tuned... its running incredibly rich. had a issue with gearbox oil pissing out from a bolt under the gearbox that serves no purpose which was weird but its been sorted and thats all fine.
it also leaks engine oil which is the mechanics stuff up because they replaced all the seals and it leaks again! :(
it goes in on wednesday to find the source of the leak and we'll go from there. sure they must fix this for free though yes?
Now to some fricken awesome news!
the reground cams have arrived!!!!!
i got them yesterday they have cut back the lift on the mivec cam which was hitting the rocker arm so now there isnt as much of a difference in lift between the non mivec and the mivec cam but the duration is much different!
just holding them u can feel the power haha
now the plan is to ask my mechanics to put them in if they have to pull apart the engine again to fix the oil leak.
this would save me a lot of $$$ :D
so hopefully thatll happen.
now i need a decent pair of vernier cam gears... apparently herman at envy imports have got some can anyone get in contact with them for me?
oh and bennoz if your reading this check your pm's!!!
going to have to chuck on a tranny cooler and most likely a catch can just to be safe. valve springs might also need to be upgraded.
waiting on RPW to tell me which stage these actually are.
thanks to me and at my expense they have now been able to add two more stages to their line up so there are 4 NA stages of cams.
Mine is maybe the stage 3 according to them
bit weird how they arent sure what grind is on them. oh and they didnt know when they were being ground but they should now i hope haha
its going to be interesting to see how the tip gearbox handles this. fingers crossed its good!
but yes more exciting times ahead
the only query is finding a place to do this very important tune... might be bringing it up to melbourne or something if need be. oh and also ive put my facelift front bar on with the lip and it looks mad.
love it.
you guys should just hear how it sounds and you'll cream yourselves :p

another update.

looks like we'll be gettinug the cam gears from herman after all. $1,000 eeek! just waiting for him to send through some pics of them before we make the transaction. this is the final piece of the puzzle and then we get serious into putting the cams in. RPW have advised no need for replacing the valve springs as most the modification is on the non mivec cam and the mivec cam has only a slight increase in lift but a lot more duration. its finally happening guys. the cams are going to be going in the start of february. along with a tranny cooler, a catch can and maybe an oil cooler. getting my front bar resprayed at the same time and maybe my new bonnet if i put it on. getting it done all in one hit! tuning is the tricky part. apparently emanages arent that common this far south and are only coming into the market and becoming popular now. so i might have to head up to melbourne for the final tune and for the final power figures.
and mosti mate whats so  about it? just cos it hasnt gone smoothly?
