And agree looking at the funky old oil sh*t I would say the hidrolic ones are done for/ clogged up. Big time.

I think I read some place that they are all the same phil between the gr's and gpx's.
Thanks Aza....
If this is correct then Vectose and I could go halves in a set of 24 hydraulic tappets :D

OK, have been searching all day and have found collets @ camskill, have sent them an email asking if they stock hydraulic tappets/pistons and have asked if the complete engine gasket kit comes with tappet/lash adjuster screws.
I am yet to find hydraulic tappets for MIVEC.

EDIT: Have found hydraulic tappets, commonly known as Rocker Arm Spring
From camskill.......
$350.02 AUD delivered for a set of 12 rocker arm springs
$481.45 AUD delivered for a set of 24 tappet/lash adjuster srews

$756.21 AUD delivered for both sets same order

Well after running an engine flush through it (Liqui-Moly Engine Detox) and changing the oil it has made no difference to the noise.

And after driving it for a bit with the windows open I could instantly tell that the tappet noise was louder than it ever was before, but it is now a single tappet instead of many tappets.

Could it be that when we were adjusting the tappets one of the collets broke off? Seeing as it was never this loud in the past.

If this is true, would we not have adjusted out the extra gap caused by a broken collet in the second adjustments?
ZFL45H1's engine has no collets installed and it doesn't make the same noise.

Trying to do a bit of home work......

Red arrows = ???, will engage MIVEC lobes when you hit MIVEC?
Blue arrows = Rocker arm spring (hydraulic tappets), hold the MIVEC lobes in place when not in use?
Which would mean place rocker arm springs into vice and squeeze out crap? But this could cause them to stay compressed?

Sorry for the extra posts, but I am just trying to work this out. For me, for Vectose and for future members that I help. :D

 I think I got it............Adjusting the tappets back to specs we have moved the MIVEC lobe, when the valve was compressed, further into the hydraulic tappet, compressing it further than what it has been used to. The hydraulic tappet is so grimed up it is now stuck in the compressed position and not returning and/or the oil gallery feeding the tappet is not allowing enough oil through to extend it back, causing the MIVEC lobe to slap against the hydraulic tappet causing the new noise.

@ Vectose, I think we need to strip the top of your engine again and strip down/check out more components.

I think I have a RDO this Friday, will confirm tomorrow. Do you want to do it then?
I would come up today but I would have to bring my 10 year old, I think he would just get bored.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone buy the other tappets new.... And you're right, they do them a 'spring'

Amayama call them 'lining' http://www.amayama.com/search/?q=MD194250&cur=AUD - $24.48 a pop x 12 = $293.76

Tappets: http://www.amayama.com/search/?q=MD212099 - $12.13 each x 24 = $291.12

Total $584.88 + freight

Hey Bennoz in communicating with Camskill yesterday and sending them your pic, they added your pic with my arrows to there part listing.......
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?show=48874

P.S. Those tappet screws are close to half the price, Camskill's site says they will price match.
I have found out that the other tappets are part of the rocker arms.

The little plastic things is what we are talking about :D

@ Vectose, if you wanted to change your timing belt and/or timing belt pulleys and/or water pump, we could do this on Friday too. It would also give us the opportunity to pull your cams out and give the upper engine a good clean. If not we can just take out your cam caps one at a time. We will probably be having a late one anyway ;)

Sounds good to me Phil, where is the best place to buy everything from? Timing belt, pulleys, water pump, and should we replace any seals while we are in there?

Also, will we need the timing belt tensioner adjustment tool?
