Where did you get these bolts from?
Imperial bolts come in a grade 7 with 5 lines on their heads.
Metric bolts normally have a 4.8, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9 on their heads. Are you sure your not trying to put an imperial bolt into a metric thread?

Bennoz may have a pressure plate bolt handy to tell you it's markings.

Don't quote me on those torque settings, I don't think that I have the right ones listed.

I got 6 from a bag I marked "clutch and flywheel bolts" (from when I removed the parts off the white FTO) and another 2 I had amongst others.

So which ones are stronger imperial or metric?

And Jerry, you did this not long ago, how tight did u do them up????
What about some loctight and 20nm?

and I lost a dowel sleeve FFS. How many does the car have, 2 or 3?

I got these today,strongest f**kers I could fine(grade12). They are 2mm longer and don't have the shoulder.. Will this affect anything ? I figure it's worth a try, considering I cannot get the right bolts anytime soon.

I did them up just as bennoz explained. and locktite isn't necessary when done correctly.

I dont think so, tbh i dont remember the torque settings. Its want super tight though, i remember that.

never said it would, jsut do them up like you would a wheel and stop when they get tight, dont however leverage on the bar, basically when you cant turn them anymore with one hand you can stop.

I'm sure the torque settings are there for a reason. But thanks anyway lol

I don't use a torque wrench to do them up lol.

Sooo this whole time. I could of just been trying to torque them up to a setting that was wrong and therefor they snap...

Guarantee I do them up harder than 44Nm...

I thought so aswell.
Well hopefully it's a combination of me doing them up in the wrong manner and old bolts being weakened in the past.

Got a dowel sleeve made up.
Attempted to align the clutch by eye
Torqued the new bolts up without them snapping. But can't get the box in usingthe trolley jack..
What is the best way to do it? I've set the engine crane up to make it easier for me tomoro, but I'm pretty sure that the clutch isn't aligned. But before I take everything back off and have another go at aligning it .im curiouse to know how hard is it usually to to put the box back on? Do I lower the engine down a fair bit and then should it just go straight on? It's stopping and leaving about half a cm gap and can't get it any further from there.

no idea... but great job... dont worry bout the bolts, ben was probably right (and you) when they were done up too tight in the first place...

would think you wouldnt need a engine crane and it would be a 2 man job... though i guess the crane would be man #2

Torque setting for the crankshaft bolts is 98Nm. You should also apply a loctite sealant to these bolts otherwise they will leak engine oil.
Page 1-52 & 1-55 of the engine manual.

The correct torque for the clutch cover bolts is 22Nm. No wonder you're snapping them.
Page 0-5 of the engine manual. M-8 head mark 7 bolts - 22Nm.

Pays to read the manual even if you do know what you're doing

But why does it say to go to 44nm In the guide and a few other people have mentioned it, when I did a search...

I can't do it lol bought a universal alignment tool and it doesn't fit so tried by eye, but obviously failed.
