Yeah I just used that handy database, optional on all Version Rs and Aeros but only standard on facelift GPX (and maybe others, didn't check).

To me, if you're that concerned about passenger safety, the FTO is just not really the place to start. But I guess if you're stuck on the FTO, and want the safest one possible as you'd still like to feel comfortable taking your other half or anyone else out in it, I guess the GPX will still suit your requirements.

I haven't said this, but the reason why I am obsessed with the airbag & the reason why I had to sell my first FTO 15 years ago was due to my close friends death in a car accident. Wasn't a FTO but in toyota sports car.. with no airbag! (going home from uni after doing all nighter / fell asleep behind the wheel on a motorway. Cause of death: brain dead).

When my mun & I went to the funeral, my mates mum repeatedly said "He needed a car with an airbag" over and over..

which kinda got me -and others friends driving the car with no airbag at the time- traumatized and lead to selling on our cars.

It's a fact & I know the "air bag" alone can not be a fool proof way of staying safe but yea.. My eyes lit up when I saw this car with dual airbags advertised online! haha.. It just "feels right" in my gut.

Yea I hear ya, and yup I know with the 3 star safety rating, the FTO isn't the safest car in the world to start with. Even my little hatch has 5 star rating. lol.. Then again, I spend more than 90% the time on the road on my bike with 0 air bags anyway..

But when it comes to my loved ones in the car it's a different story.. I'd love vR to bits.. but my gut feeling saying "safety!".. It could be just a mental thing but its better than nothing you know.

Pic taken while test riding.. no idea why the previous owner had a cane in there.. Other than "the bit" the interior is immaculate. Perfect steering wheel, perfect drivers seat. I really want the manual AC controls.

Ah, sorry to hear man. I can definitely see where you're coming from. You're probably getting the best of both worlds then doing as you're doing. A lot of things on the vR can be acquired elsewhere too (like strut and sway bars), and the facelifts benefit from revised suspension too so I daresay you will still enjoy yourself a lot, along with knowing that you have those precautions for safety in place.

Nope, mine never came with a passenger airbag, and have seen very few models actually come with it

ETA: in a week time. Can't wait to have this baby on the road. I think I will leave most mechanical parts in the car.

Took the GPX for a drive last night. drives well enjoyed it. plenty enough performance for me. Gotta fix couple things though. standard service plus wheel bearing, AC leak, panel damage (driver side), window regulator, and its got lovely new exhaust with new extractors but too damn loud for me !

I want to cut a key. but I see this button on the key. Does anyone know what this button is? it don't do anything when pressed!

Just get a shop to chuck a resonator/hotdog on to quieten it down a bit. Or maybe a bigger muffler.

Button on key is probably for an immobiliser system. If the car starts and unlocks with just the key I'd suspect the system has been disconnected?

My understanding was that the Mitsubishi never had factory immobilisers?
Does anybody have this key?

Yup, would be an aftermarket one someone has had cut with the immobiliser button integrated. Stock keys are just a blank plastic overlay over the key body.

I asked about it at my local dealership, they said the only way to get one was to purchase an entire set of keys and locks, and it was over a grand...

Kind of, they wouldn't let me just buy a key, I'd have to purchase all new door and ignition locks as well
So just went after-market instead.

So I have made a copy of a key at a local key cutting place, just a simple metal key. it works beautiful. Thank you for helping me identify what my existing key (&button) was.

This car came with an alarm. The brand is called mongoose. I know they are ok brand.

This model has an interesting twist though.. the alarm remote actually looks like the handle end of a normal key with remote in it.


When I looked at the bottom.. there was a little slit..


So I called the mongoose australia and talked with the customer service and found out that this remote is actually design to take the blank key!



So now that I have a metal key now I got to cut and drill some holes and screw it in to the alarm! Neat! Think I will love the factory look.

Better burst out my angle grinder and metal drill bit.

I think Shhtuart told me once that the facelift MOMO wheel was 37cm, so I dunno why the 38 would be too small?
