that is the main reason I would give to back up the argument of starting from good mechanical base & working your way up from there with the styling mods.. Which is what I'm doing with the new car.. all the performance work I could have possibly have wanted to do with my other FTO has already been done .. so I can concentrate on customising it the way I want to..
QFE...
That is exactly the way I thought with mine too, but then the "this is a sleeper bitches!" attitude snuck in. I honestly have no idea if I will ever put a kit on mine heh
You still never answered my question though, what Turbo is that? Looks like a 35/40
I thought it was going to have heaps of lag because of the way people talk about lag with big turbo's... I don't know whether it's just because of it being a fairly light car, but the power is pretty much instantaneous, if there is a slight lag there, I don't notice it & if anything it makes it better to drive, it doesn't just "kick" in .. it's more gradual, but loads of torque & acceleration the whole time, even before boost kicks in..

Probably because it is a 2.5 TBH, and the 35/40 is split pulse too I believe (which would help immensely with 3 cylinders feeding each input).
Fellas running 35/40's on 4G63's over here talk about lag until about 3.5k rpm with 18+ psi, the extra 500 CC's will help to no end. Hope you are enjoying it mate..

i know buying one for under ten grand as you said will meen its only a shadow of what an fto can be but at 19, uni 4 days a week, working five nights a week in a crappy job, playing tennis comp, and goin to the gym a couple of hours a day its really the most i can afford at the moment and i really see it as my first step to getting a decent fto in the future
I guess if you do it this way you can save a couple of hundred at a time and work on adding to your fto good luck in the search!

Good final advice there, it will be surprising how much you can actually save...
Wouldn't be surprised if you could wrangle your way to the cash for a nice full kit and fitting

How did the dyno day go?
I guess I don't really notice it cause normal running RPM is around 2800 rpm & boost starts at 3k RPM or just over .. so as soon as I put my foot down it starts spooling & is at 3500rpm in no time at all .. Need to do something about boxing the turbo intake & some more heat shielding should help with the pickup..
Do you have heat related issues with your setup?
Dyno day was good .. driving in Sydney / NSW was sh*t .. fixed speed cameras everywhere! I am so glad to be back in QLD.. not that I drive like a hoon all the time, but it's cool being able to drive somewhere without being constantly paranoid.. (we still have to worry about mobile speed camera vans and radars, but not as much)
If I never have to go back to Sydney (driving) I will be a happy man.. not to mention all the ~delightful~ people ..
haha wow guys way to highjack a forum topic! nah its cool and as for my price range somewhere between 7 and 8 would be perfect for me, its just finding one near brisbane thats the trouble

I DID have major heat issues, but they were fixed with putting a centimeter or so of washers between the hinges and the bonnet. Plenty of heat removel there!

aye .. my bonnet's been propped, but the temps still a bit higher than I'd like.. I'm going to be getting a vented bonnet .. but not the usual carmate types..

Your only real option is an oil cooler (if you don't already have one) and a bigger radiator. If it's still standard then it really isn't up to the task. God dual high power fans? Look at upgading those if they aren't...
