It does not look like a deck worth hiding due to its value?
I use to do this to my old cars.. Like my RX2. Left the stock radio in place and hid all the "state of the art" stuff.. Well as "state of the art" was for the early 90's.. But old cars like that were a piece of piss to get into, and alarms were not that food either. .
Because they are putting 7 inch Android tablets in the stock head unit spot, therefore they need to relocate the head unit.

I had to trim away some plastic, but that's about it!
nothing visible, and nothing that would stop be putting a standard stereo back in!

To get it flush with the stereo surround I had to grind off the tabs on the back of the stereo surround that are meant for screwing in a pocket. I also had to grind the holes on the side of the floor console a bit for the wires to for through.

That's pretty much exactly what we have done.

Only I used a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (purely for the fact that it has expandable memory and better colour reproduction over the Nexus 7)

I solved both those issues by using an app called Tablet Talk which allows you to make and receive calls and texts with your tablet via your phone (as long as you have an android phone). And I have a induction charger in the car which charges my phone by just placing it on it.

I actually quite like your system set up. Hopefully have something somewhat similar (excluding the tablet) when I sort out this next car properly.

Nice, What are you using in the car for the wireless charging?
I'm currently looking at modding a Palm Prio charger to give my SGS3 wireless charging, but i'm not too sure what I want to use as the dock...

I am using a Powermat that is made for a Droid X and have modified a otter box case and put it in the back of that. Cost me $12.
Bought a few extra and put them around my house.
