As has been stated many times before (Mainly by you)....Mitsubishi adjustable lifters have always and will always make noise....I have worked on new mitsubishis at work that already have noisy tappets.

Adjusting tappets back to spec reduces current noise by 50-80%

Aza has the quietest Mivec I have ever heard, but his engine got a full rebuild.

So we would probably have to install new lifters/tappets and cams to get a quite engine.

....or I have been thinking that maybe if I adjusted the gaps slightly smaller than specs (say 10% smaller), that might quiten down the noise. What do you think?

BTW I am using Edge Professional 5w-30.

In saying all that, what if the valve springs are getting a bit old and not returning as quickly or efficiently?

Ours surprisingly aren't too bad.
a lot of it also comes down to regular oil changes, using good quality oil, and doing the occasional flush.

Granted, these are mechanical, and will therefore never be set in factory stone.
But I'm just glad I haven't had to deal with them.

Having said that, I do need to replace the valve cover gaskets.

Oh so all mivecs 6a12 tick?? That's not good. Mine has no lifter noise even during startup now.

I'm on castrol edge 5w40. I find 30 weight a tad thin in mine.

I work on current gen mivecs and they are quiet! For now anyway!

Grinded back the seams in my front wheel arches so my tyres don't get chewed away.

Here's some pics. First time I've ever angle grinded so not that schmick, but does the job in all fairness.

Dead battery after leaving it untouched for 3weeks. Felt its time to change as it has been 4years in service. Bought a new one from Repco.

Incident from Repco, the staff insist on checking his system in order to make sure i get the right battery. He came back with a big ass battery (550cca). I said my last battery(310cca) was a lot smaller in size and and i have been using it for nearly 4years with no problems. He kept insisting that something was wrong and i should be using that small battery.
I told him the big battery wouldnt even fit and he went about telling me he was a mechanic and told me to stop wasting his time....wtf....
I ended up getting a Repco one with 33cca and install it and it works as expected.

Phew, just in time for my track day tomolo!

Pulled the starter motor out yesterday.

New one came today (cheers dwayne!) and put it in all by myself!

Took like 5 minutes haha.

I know none of you will be able to appreciate this (maybe astron and bennoz), but:

Today I took delivery of my new "Golden Cog" Low-range gears. 3.15:1 gearing ratio from the factory 1.9:1.

Combined with the 4.1:1 diffs (down from 3.917:1 factory), this thing is going to idle along at some stupidly slow speed in low-range. Crawl ratio of 55:1 (factory 32:1) So, at 650rpm (idle), my Axles/CV's are turning at 11rpm... Crawl speed = 1.665km/h

Carpeted my whole garage, and bought 1000W in halogen worklights, for those late nights.

Ours is just bits of old carpet covering it :p
Although I don't like working in there due to the low light.
Yesterday I washed my FTO, my parents Pugeot, and my Nana and Poppa's Rover.
All ready for Poppa's funeral today :(

Gave my GPvR folding mirrors.

Took the guts out of a set of GPX mirrors and put them in mine.

And a fun fact...... Weight difference between a GPvR mirror and GPX mirror is 150 grams.
