Gearbox grinding - what to do?

So I had a chat with someone at Valvoline today to ask if the LS90 oil was suitable for our cars, and was told that is not because the EP additives are corrosive to yellow metals. He recommended using Duragear 75w-85 which is a GL-4 oil.

Does anybody have any input on this?

I think that's the one i used for my non lsd box... it makes switching to third from high revs crunch... Castrol Syntrax worked better for non lsd.. But maybe you do have an lsd...

Yeah I went through that BS with them too. The GL4 vs GL5 argument. I used to fly the GL4 flag, but since rebuilding half a dozen boxes, I've come to the conclusion that the only yellow metal in our gearbox is the syncro cones, just like every other modern gearbox.

So, the LS90 is safe to use and wont damage anything?

Just an update on this, I replaced my gearbox oil with Castrol Syntrans 75W-85 and the gearbox is 150% better. Gear changes are smooth as silk and I did not have any grinding at all while cold whereas previously it would grind in almost every gear until it warmed up.

I also flushed and bled the clutch fluid and the pedal feels a lot better now.
