Slowly turning my FTO into a respectable one!

But you wouldn't like this future NSW DIY GPX tappets day because we will all be doing our own work.
You like others working on your FTO while you watch.

In my defence I was honestly planning on a DIY day for everyone last time. Everyone rocked up with no work to do so they just kinda turned attention to mine

Thanks I have done water pump on my FTO before.
I used the starter method, breaker bar with fuel turned off

Ah if you have hit the waterpump then you will be fine!! How do you tighten the bolt btw?
My impact wasn't strong enough to crack the bolt on removal so I had to resort to starter.
I did it back up with breaker bar, wheels chocked and on the ground and in gear.
Ah ok! My impact took it off easy! It's rated at 500nm though.
It's only struggled with one bolt ever and that was a balancer bolt off a 99 Lancer. Ended up putting getting my 3/4 inch impact from my workshop rated at 1100nm to get it off. It was an absolute pain!!

At home I only have "super cheap auto" air tools and compressor. At work I have a SP Tools rattle gun @ 800nm. Also at work there is shop 1/2" + 3/4" + 1" rattle guns.

hey guys, not sure if this will help.
My tappets where becoming annoying and louder and was looking to change them.
I did a bit of reading and found that the thickness of the oil makes a difference.
so i did an oil change with a slightly thicker oil, not much difference in noise.
I did another oil change a month later and used Nulon 20-50W. Haven't heard my tappets since.
its been 6 months now.
theres my 2 cents!
cheers
Ollie

I swear to god, I'm going to run a query on the database that removes all talk of using thicker oil to mask a tappet noise problem...
On the flipside, I spose once that motor explodes, there'll be one less FTO on the road & as such, the value of mine will go up!

We can have one at mine in about a month during school holidays. I also have a busted old engine on a stand (6A12 Mivec) so if anyone wants to practice f**king with the tappets theyre welcome to do it before they try it on their actual car.
