I think everyone has been waiting for the result and cost for a long time.

I don't see how the cost is ever going to justify the cost of the increase in performance.

If I wanted to spend 10gs on the FTO, I would rather do a transplant.

If they're smart, they should have the basic kit that's really competitive priced and have options to add-on.

although transplants may seem more sensible, they are not without its fair share of hassles either...

is that $9K for the engine alone (incl turbo + FMIC + ecu etc) or $9K for the overall conversion??

AN alternativ is teh RPW Hybrid motor the 6A12/6A13 DOHC 2.5 Mivec engine.

WE ahve just sourced our timingbelt and are now sending out for our forged pistons - 6A13 with 6A12 compression shape, and forged conrods to complete this motor for our touring car gentleman.

We can just use the stock conrods on teh 6A13 with the forged high compression pistons. and everything else stock although the engine is bored out 020" so it is closer to 2.6 litres.

Eitehr way these are now going to be readily available and a direct fit over into the engine. Torque would be amazing.

Pricing is approx $5500.00 for the conversion motor where you supply your origonal 6A12 mivec engine as we use many components off that. The best thing is you fit it into yoru car with the stock computer system and then fit a greddy E-manage and retune using all origonal plugs.

Torque and hp will obviously be up as the larger motor will definitly improve torque off mivec .

The problem I have with this particular motor is its getting improved camshafts, valve springs and fitted with a Greddy E-Manage so the HP gains I report on this engine will be not the same as a normal street car.

The earlier Galant VR4 engine is a 4g63 (ie, evo motor just older and less technichal I think) Anyway I think that wreckers sell the engine for a few grand and by rights it should bolt straight in as it's the same engine family as the 4g93(?) in the GS (I think?). A mate just bought one to be put into his Cordia, obviouslyt other mods then just the engine would need to be done to like fuel pumps and stuff unless you got a full front cut.

the 4G63 from the Galant VR4 WILL NOT fit because the gearbox for that engine is mounted on the driver side, not passenger side like the FTO.

I was just going to let people know that the owner of the RPW turbo'd FTO (Ashey) is needing some body panels. His brother drove into the back of his car then he pushed into the house. I hope his brother is paying for it.

He needs new driver's side head light, drivers side fog light, front bumper, top mix splitter, rear bumper, top mix rear aprons, drivers side wheel arch skin. This may delay us finding out the performance gains that he has. But he did state "Although I have not had a chance to give it a real blast as I was taking it easy on the car I would say that it has add about another 50% to the cars power and all this at 0.5 boost."

Turbo

Post by markyboy »

I was at the garage watching the kit getting fitted and went alog to meet Ashley when he was getting hiscar back. The kit was load of work but in the end was fitted and shuld be allot easier once the correct shape pipework is made for the following kits. There was a slight problem with the oil return pipe from the turbo, it had a small leak which the garage tried to fix. This resulted in a blown turbo once it was starved of oil.Ashley reported a good increase in low down power and was very happy saying it was aprox 50% more powerful and sounded great. He could make the steering go very very light in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears with very little problem.Unfortunately as i said the turbo blew and then his brother ran into his car pushing it into his house so he needs loads of panel and paintwork done. The car is only running a basic map from the E- manage and was to be set up the following day on a rolling road but unfortunately didnt make it for the above reasons..We are all waiting on more info but it looks very promising indeed..
