The PS tensioner pulley was changed by Mitsi from MD306295 to MD366344 at some stage, also the whole PS pump/unit from MR171909 to MR272144.

Took it to the mechanic, he popped the bonnet and immediately said "There's your problem, It's a Mitsubishi!" haha.

He had a good look, and we saw that the harmonic balancer was chipped.
For now we're running a 5 rib belt, and have pushed it over to the other side of the balancer to try and avoid the chip, and I guess I shall start looking for a new one.

So far 50KM or so and it's still fine
The last one lasted about 6 months, so as long as I get that again I'll be happy :)

Yeah but that balancer will throw everything out of whack lol I'd get it replaced as soon as you can as they are meant to be a balancer not just a pulley

Ben - you're an engineer (I don't know who else is on here but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more), what's your feeling about lightweight crank pulleys with no harmonic balancer?
I had one on the last car for almost two years before selling the car and didn't notice a problem but would it have been killing the crank slowly but stressing it possibly creating stress fractures or something that I don't understand?
Some people say they are fine and some say no so just wondering what your general opinion is Sir.

Not a fan on street cars. Frequent stopping & starting is when the crank needs damping most. At high rpm race applications it's not as critical, the bearing shells maintain a thin film of oil at all times & the rpm loads tend to be more stable from a harmonic point of view.

I'm especially not a fan of shoddy ebay units...

In other words, it's too much risk for such little reward?

You'd do better to have a massive dump before hitting the drag strip, than removing 20 grams off the pulley.

Fixed the drivers side window, thanks to dstocks for parts :)
The motor was burnt out but I reckon it was burnt out because of what must have been a previously bodged window replacement (broken glass evidence in the bottom of the door) as the guides were out. In particular the rear guide which was adjusted all the way forward thus having an effect on the front guide and making it come off the rail and get wedged = burnt out motor.

Fair do's, not worth the risk then.

Started fixing up the Vectra, getting it ready to sell.
- Fixed the floppy auto gear selector
- Fixed the floppy exterior door trims
- Trying to fix the cruise control, the contols and internal wiring OK, have found a badly corroded harness + socket on the engine bay module, Inox'd it but still not working.

I hate working on the Vectra

Fixed the passenger side window motor (more thanks to dstocks).
Dropped the engine oil.
De-gunked the 6 hydraulic mivec tappets (or whatever they are called) in the front bank, will do the rears next weekend.
She's sounding sweeter already :)
