Just so people don't misunderstand your statement...

Hella don't actally make HID kits that fit the FTO. Instead someone has bought Hella HID globes (which are meant to be used as a replacement in HID setups) and have stuck them onto HB4/9006 connectors taken off halogen globes. Although physically this allows the HID globe to fit in the same socket as the halogen globes, its important to note that the HID globe was not designed to be used as a halogen replacement and likewise the optics of the headlight housing were designed for the characteristic of light emiited from halogen globes not the characteristics of light emitted from HID globes.

But don't take my word, instead read what Hella themselves say about all this

Sorry to burst any bubbles here, but it's important people understand, as there's a lot of misinformation about these "upgrade" kits.

Some of you may also find the information in these links of value:

caveat emptor

Thanks for that ruchi, you worded it better than I did :)

What I was trying to say was, the components of the kit aren't cheapo China-made, but are actually made in Germany by Hella, and sold off to Xelux for packaging. Kinda like OEM stuff.

The optics of the projector lens of the FTO weren't initially designed for HID optics, true, however I have had several customers with FTOs retrofit HID 9006 kits on their car (GPXXX is one of them ;)) and they haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. In fact, every car that I have fitted HIDs on, that has had projector headlights, has found that the light cutoff is even sharper and definitely gives more usable light.

I'd really like to see some night photos of HID's on an FTO. In particular how much they light up the road compared to normal bulbs. Does _anyone_ have some photos or are able to take some?

Yes but they're not on an FTO :P
Anyhow, I'm taking the plunge, bought a set of 8000k HID's. Hopefully they'll be really good. But worst case scenario I'll have some kick arse high beams ;)

ANBU and HiRAEdd:
HID kit has been ordered (actually was ordered a few days ago, but forgot to let you know :D) and hopefully, if they sent it right, I should get it within two weeks (hopefully a lot less than that though!)

I may sound like an absolute DH here, but what the hell is a HID kit? I can gather its for headlights, but what advantages are there for the money?

haha, dh is forgivable ;)

In a nutshell, HIDs are a lot nicer in colour (pure white or white with slight blue tinge), are three times more intense light than conventional halogen globes, have over 10x longer lifespan, are easier on the eyes, can be moved onto your next car...

anything else you need? :D
