In one day??
I'll just wait until Phil moves to SA and get him to do it!
Good luck with that

My car is now South Australian. However, both of the things I thought I could do (swap my old plates, and use leftover registration) I could not. Bit of a bummer, but such is life.
I did, however, drive around for over a month on ACT plates.

Yea, how did you like the stamp duty, new registration fees and plate charges

'Twas lame.
I wonder what they do with all the old plates though. 'Cause I surrendered my old plates, and she told me to put them into this blue rubbish bin (the standard wheelie bin size) and it was full save like 20cm of space.
They sort them out state specific and then all SA ones get destroyed and the other states get destroyed by their RTAs as far as I know. I know they don't reissue used plates for a set amount of time, 5 years or something??. And I know all of our old Alpha Numeric SA plates aren't reissued now because they have gone to the S Alpha Numeric plates.

Oh and I know what the fees are like, I had to change mine from NSW to SA and then twice more in SA. My car had like 4 different rego plates within a month

Lol, all that waste. Maybe they should make them out of recycled plastic.
How much was the transfer from NSW to SA?
Do you need a pink slip?
Can you get 6 months rego?
Can I keep my NSW licence or do I loose the time/money to renewal date, and have to pay for a SA licence with a new renewal date?

Well you'll have stamp duty so usually a few hundred dollars plus all the other rego fees. No pink slip needed, if it has 4 wheels it can be registered in SA regardless of it's condition (lemon state of Australia). Can only get 3 months or 1 year rego. They got rid of 6 and 9 month regos a few years back
And yea you can keep it but you will have to eventually change your license to SA if you live here long enough. But once you change your residential address it'll need changing

Stamp duty?
I already own the cars and they are already in my name?

New residents must apply for a licence and register their vehicles in South Australia within three months of arrival.
Registering an interstate vehicle Unless you hold a current interstate registration certificate in exactly the same name as the intended South Australian registration the vehicle must have a vehicle inspection to confirm the correct identity of the vehicle.
After the vehicle has been inspected you can provide the following information to a Service SA customer service centre:
•your completed application for registration and third party insurance and your inspection certificate
•evidence of identity if you have not previously been issued a licence or registered a vehicle in South Australia
•payment of fees. You can use the EzyReg fee calculator . To avoid paying stamp duty you will need to produce the interstate registration certificate showing the vehicle was registered in your name.
After you have registered the vehicle in South Australia you can apply to the state where the vehicle was previously registered for a refund of registration fees.

If it is in your name then yea you should. I tried that when mine came from the importer in NSW but the rego was meant to be in my name but it was in their company name?? I had no issue getting it registered here apart from the extra stamp duty...
