Im looking at an FTO GPX at the moment to buy and was wondering if there are any specialist shops I could take it to so it can be checked by someone in the know before I buy. And also, if I do get it, I dont want to be taking it to some guy with no clue I guess.

So anyone got some recomendations?

a little more expensive than an RACV test,
but worth it for the peice of mind

i can't remember the name of the guy i had,
but you should ask for someone that has experience at testing FTO's

Also where is the car? Is it a private sale or a car yard. If it's Private we might Know the car and whether it's schmick or a laymon (Frog for lemon) And of course the price would be a good indicator.

Cheers for the quick replies :D

Its a private sale in Box Hill, 1996 FTO GPX with 130,000km on the clock for $9,000.
Come to think of it, it's easier just to post the link.

I'm half considering not going for this one, just for the purpose of having a bit more of a look around to get my grounding.

That's not a GPX it's a GR, you can tell from the placement of the oil cap.

GPX have the mivec cover and the oil cap is on the left not the right.

the plot thickens haha, I just spoke to the seller earlier, said I could go around any time. Should I still be looking at the same price since this is a GR and not GPX?

The dilemma I face is I dont have my Ps yet :P As natural as it is to go inspect a car armed with my Ls and my parents... My test is booked for January 9th, another reason I think I might just hold off for a month, earn a bit more cash and then I could be getting one in a bit better condition.

khunjeng: Im in Templestowe btw, having someone come with who knows these cars would be comforting in knowing Im not being ripped off hard.

There are some members selling theirs atm which are in better nick then that one, and they won't tell you its a GPX when it's a GR.

Put in an extra couple thousand and you can get yourself a decent car to drive.

Sounds like a good idea, I just got off the phone to Just Car and was quoted $3007/year for comp insurance so it looks like I'll be holding back a month or two so I can afford it as well as put some more biccies away to get an fto for a few extra.

Any chance I could drop along to a meetup just to get to know the car, have a chat, etc?

You are welcome to come to the next pizza/cruise thing:

http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... 186#106186

You don't need an FTO to attend

Sounds like you're still a rating 6 driver with Just Cars.
