Hi,

I have tip box which is starting to give me trouble. After the car has been sitting overnight it does not want to change properly even in the manual position. It will sit in first or second and refuse to go to third, I try to do it in manual and nothing happens and then it will slam into third and the N light begins to flash. It won't go into fouth. I have to stop the car and switch off to reset. It did it three times row one day last week.

Is there some sort of sensor that has gone faulty...Has anyone else had this problem ??

Thanks

Check your TIP ECU error codes

Same way you check engine ECU codes, only watch the N light on the dash instead of the engine light

Chances are its an input or output speed sensor (or both)

Worst case scenario, your torque converter is about to eat itself ($$$)

I'm afraid it sounds very much like your Torque Convertor has gone.

When it goes into 1st and 2nd do you still have drive? If you dont then the gearbox is changing ratios but it isn't connected to the engine. The CRASH is the TC catching and putting strain through the box, which promptly goes in the huff.

It's not a hard job to change but can be time consuming. There's a write up in the grease monkey section of the UK FTOOC antitled changing yuor gearbox.

HTH and hope I'm wrong,

Me too....!!

I still have drive, the car pulls ok and I can change down but it wont go past the 3rd gear

Must admit that when it slams into gear it doesn't feel good........I know its going to do it but can't do anything about it

Must admit though, its been behaving for the last couple of days

Think its happy that I have put a higher octane fuel in now. Stopped pinking and doesn't rattle when I start in the mornings...
