Hot engine.

Okay im going to blame my turbo for this.
I was driving to the GC and back the other day... Keep in mind was still untuned and so no revs past 4,500rpm and kept the turbo in VAC. or at least below 1psi. lol
Anyway after about 2 hours or so of driving (and it was a very very hot day) my needle started to creep up from its usual position to a bit over half way. I pulled over.. went shopping.. went back and drove home it was fine. Im guessing this is extra heat generated by the turbo?
Options to fix this???
Was looking at possibly a PWR Aluminium Radiator. although they are quite expensive at the $800 mark i think. Not sure what else i can really do. Would the fact it was running a stock ecu do this? i wouldnt have thought so.
Any ideas people?

Yeah they'll do that! Wild Ride in Vic wont take his turbo FTO out of the garage if the temp is over 30 degrees....
Theres probably heaps of cooling info in the Turbo section... more so in Danny & Jeffs thread

the small FTO engine bay and the V6 engine dont make for cool engine temps.
If its not well past the middle and staying there I wouldnt be worried too much esp. if it was a hot day.

Im more worried about when i get the car back this arvo... Running full boost and hitting redline etc will surely be much much hotter than my less spirited driving the other day. The thing is i want to be able to drive no matter what.. and i want the best for my engine... within reason. Im guessing keeping an engine at optimum temp is best for it. i want this engine to last a long long time so if buying a $800 radiator to give it an extra year or two is well worth it to me. as i said im more worried about long term damage.
And as far as hot days go, QLD has plenty of them.

A lot of the turbo kids run heat wrap... on exhausts & even make heat wrap cases to put over the hairdryer itself.

Already done... everything within 30cm of turbo has heat shielding.. all fuel lines are braided. up and down pipes both heat wrapped and turbo has a blanket. I've taken this into the turbo section now.

Maybe consider a vented bonnet? Heat will try to escape as quickly as possible from a physics point of view.

What style bonnet? Does it have intake and exhaust vents?

would do the job.
Get a better cooling system...stock radiator is a bit *~dreamy~*.

If you dont wanna spend the big bucks on Alloy radiators, you can always have the stock one beefed up. They are just braise welded bits of tin on the radiator & it aint expensive to have to the top & bottom tanks pulled off the core & have a thicker core put in... The core come in various thicknesses & its delivered to shops in sheets size - they just cut the appropriate size core out of the thickness you want & weld the tanks back on to it. Just a thought anyway.

funny enough I had looked into it recently. My radiator buddy reckons he can beef it up really good for about $400 depending on what u want. Maybe even a bit cheaper.
THe stock FTO front bar gets fairly decent air flow...or if u like remove your air con condenser

why not use heat wrap around exhuast piping and shield the turbo from the engine???

Hmmmmm might need to also beef up your oil cooling more as well.

Oil temp shouldnt be a prob untill i hit the track.
Air con condensor has said bye bye a while ago
I already have both turbo sheilded and up/down pipes.
And it must have been a one off... after a massive drive back from NSW (8 hours) it didnt even think about overheating.
