I cleaned mine with 'subaru upper engine cleaner', is a spray that is used on subaru's when they have a service, it removes any carbon build up in the ports and combustion camber.
When I had my manifold off I sprayed that stuff in it and it cleaned it up real good, this stuff is strong.

Yeah I use the Subaru stuff
It's awesome!
You do need to go to Subaru to buy it and last time I bought it, it was $17 per can

yeah I think thats much it cost $17, with the stuff left over spray it in your intake while the engine is running and clean the carbon build up in your ports and combustion chamber, if you get white smoke coming out the exhaust that means it is working, lol.

And for those of us who don't fiddle with our Engines much; spray it where, exactly?

intake is the only way to do it I guess!

Yeah that stuff goes in through the intake, probably the easiest way is to remove the hose on top of the throttle body, but you must have the throttle open a little bit or it won't go into the intake as this port is not open unless the throttle is open a little bit and your engine will stall so you have to keep the revs up.
Guys with the mivec engines can do it this way or can remove the intake and can spray it directly into the throttle body as the mivec engine does not use a air flow sensor.
