hey guys, i've done the whole search thing but havent been able to answer these questions:

1. is the wiring already there for ftos that didnt come with the rear wiper?
2. as far as i know i'll need the motor, blade, rear wind screen and a switch, is there anything else i need?

cos i'm going to buy what i can from jono's wreck for this but i need to know what else i need.

Serious? Sounds like 100x more effort than its worth.. Esp. since it hasnt rained properly for months...

Its extra weight too!

Fairly sure the wiring loom will have the plug. I think it was part of the standard options for the harness. Ie like I dont have fog lights, but the plug is there behind the faux switch.

perfectionist, have to have all the options lol
and beside it rained last night and i was like... OMG what's this liquid falling from the sky... or is everything else just flying up to meet it... lol, but yeah with the blind spot already bad enough as it is in an fto i figured it wont hurt to see out the back lol

Even in the rain, I've never needed a rear wiper. o_0

Hell it only gets wet if I stop moving... I guess I do too much highway driving... by the time I hit brisbane inner suburbs the rain has fizzled out... as usual. Rain? What's that?

Altho we had some last night 8O wasn't much to write home about though :(

If I did anything I'd love a single wiper on the front... something about single wipers excites me in ways it shouldn't.

then do it, it wont be hard, simon did it i think... al lu have to do is get rid of the passenger side one, and take the driver side one off and when u put it back on, u put it so it's off set... not perfect but it's easy

hey can someone with a rear wiper take a photo of the mechanical stuff so i know what i'm getting into?

Nup,

Im 90% sure you need the loom for it....One of the only cars I am aware of that has so many different looms depending on the options you choose. I looked into this for a while and you need:

Rear Wiper + arm + rubber bits
Rear Window
Loom
Indicator/wiper combo.

Definietly do-able, but a LOT of effort.

thanks dstocks. great help :)

um... i figured about the indicator wiper combo (remember reading it somewhere before), and i knew about the wind screen.

what do you mean rear wiper + arm?

thought it was motor + arm + rubber blade = wiper... seems i'm wrong though lol, enlighten me please :)

and as far as wiring goes... if i just wired the motor up i.e. run a wire from the front to a switch (somewhere near the dash), then to the rear wiper motor... wouldn't that work? or am i dreaming?

that my friend would be logical and smart. and if you know me then you would know when it comes to cars, i'm neither lol.
but chances are i will probably end up doing just that cos i'll realise how much effort it actually is. but in the mean time let's just amuse my sense of advanture and see where it goes lol :D

Sorry

Sorry, my bad explanation. You are right - the motor and the arm and blade. There is also a rubber plug that is separate that fits in the hole in the rear window (for the arm to pass through).

Oh and the rear parcel shelf is different too (it has a slot in it). You could modify your existing one to fit though.

Yep, dont think there is anything stopping you from running wires to the rear of the car, but the harder part MAY be splicing extra wires for the new combo into your loom. Im not sure whether the extra wires are already there or not. I had to do this for the aerial I put in my blue FTO. I had the rear screen aerial and wanted the electric one for the better reception. Not only did I have to run a different loom from the front of the car, I also had to splice 2 wires into the main dash loom. The plug in question just didnt have those wires in it!. I was lucky as I had 2 looms (one with aerial and one without), so I was able to sort it. I think you may end up needing to get one to be able to work out how it needs to go.

I do have a loom here somewhere (dash part only) that had the rear wiper option. If you end up needing (and wanting) to go down that path, its there. Problem is, im not 100% sure youll need it.......

rainox it is then

...at least for now lol

the modding the rear parcel shelf bit put the nail in the coffen lol, already have enough half started project for the car as it is lol (uphostering, in car pc, lights etc lol)
