1995 FTO GPX Auto - Is it p plater legal?

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting an FTO that's semi auto. In VIC we've got that idiotic power to weight ratio law... that says if the car makes more than 125 kw per ton, it's no good for a p plater.

I'm wondering, what is the exact weight of a 1995 semi/auto FTO GPX and the exact power ? I'm pretty sure its 1197 kgs and 147 KW...Which means its got a power to weight ratio of 122 (power divided by weight then x 1000)

but i'm not 100 percent. I don't want to run the risk of the insurance company not paying out if i had a smash/// or getting done by the coppers.

Can anyone help?

You'll be alright.

Stupid p plater rules I wanna stab the ppl that make them rules.

No turbo, no supercharger, no phones, no speeding, no anything. Watch them say soon you won't be able to play with the stereo while driving.

AHHH Can't wait till I'm off my P's.

lol. Actually, I agree with the phones one - some dozey bint stopped about 3 inches short of plowing into the back of me at the lights yesterday morning while having a "Oh darrrrrrrling, I know! Those shoes are so last week!" conversation on her phone.

Sorry for the change of subject... just needed to vent!

Anyway to answer your question,

Found this thanks to dstocks site http://www.completefto.com.au/FTO_showcontent.asp?hid=21

Weight for auto 95 gpx - 1210kg
Power (kw) - 147
Power to weight (using your power to weight ratio) 121.49

BTW Welcome to the club.

Mmm, yeah.
The Vic laws are slightly different to our NSW laws though lwrida.
They have a power / weight restriction whereas we have a turbo/supercharger/v8 restriction.

So, the GPX FTO just creeps under eh? It'd have to be one of the closest cars to the limit for P platers, yeah? What else comes close?

Also, what happens if you then go and fit CAI / extractors / cat back and suddenly are over the power to weight ratio?

not too many cops are gonna make you dyno your car just to check power to weight ratio... so you're safe
...unless you turbo it (which is pretty friggin rare)

GPX is legal for P platers in vic, so welcome to the club :D

p.s. with the name Fto_cruiser we better see you on some club cruises!
