Worse luck, I get my 80,000 service done along with a valve clean, new fuel pump and other miscellaneous things and the shop tells me my clutch is about to go. I was afraid of this having not been able to stay in mivec between first and second for quite some time now.

Anyway, from the threads I've read, Exedy seems to be the recommendation in general though the fact that "painful in traffic" comes up time and time again concerns me a bit. Is there a good "middle-ground" clutch between a racing clutch and a "family-car" clutch? I do give the car a belting every now and again so I'm after something that isn't going to wear out in 12 months but don't necessarily need the performance of a racing clutch.

So is there something worthwhile or am I just dreaming and need to just get an Exedy (if so, which model)?

Yeah, go for the Excedy sports organic. A few of us use it here, only mildly more heavy on the foot, yet has 400kg more clamping on the pressure plate. Cost me about $400 for the kit & have had it running (in a daily driver) for almost 2 years now

Hmm, ok Bennoz. What sort of money should I be looking at to get one installed? I have been verbally quoted "a grand" but that sounds a bit steep?

Prolly 6-700 would see it done at the right price

When picking a clutch you need to consider

Clamping force
Clutch disc (full face or button)
Clutch material

Clamping force will have an effect on the pedal feel (higher force usually means heavier pedal)

Clutch disc and material will have an effect on the on/off nature of the engagement. An organic material isnt as harsh as say ceramic so the transition is smoother. The face of the clutch is very important too. A full face clutch will again be smoother then a button clutch.

My adcise is - stick with a full face clutch and maybe upgrade the clamping force if youve got basic mods.

The sports organic is going to set me back about 800, then there's the slave cylinder that also needs replacing at the same time. All up I think I'm going to be up for about 900 bones :/

Well she's in, the Exedy Sports Organic clutch. And boy does it make a difference! As it turns out, it's a touch lighter than my old one so that confirms that I had an aftermarket clutch in my car. I can't thrash it for a week whilst she beds in but even so, the difference in first and second, in particular, is huge. Makes it really obvious how much she was slipping before.

Now all I have to do is get the steering rack reconditioned and touch wood, she's up to scratch.

Nice one! I kind of want to change my stock one but it's still new bah. Actually, where does the clutch start to engage ? The stock factory one engages near the very top hmm.

At the moment this one is engaging about one third from the floor and it's really sticky...well compared to my old - slipping - clutch (it's all relative). That being said, it gets adjusted in a week after it beds in so right now isn't really an accurate indication.

I ordered what i thought was an Exceedy Sports organis Heavy duty clutch...
It was $700.... i thought it was the same as yours... is it likely that im wrong and its different... I remember the guy saying it was exceedys heaviest clutch 4 an fto... Pink box but green discs
