I've never driven a manual car, don't know how to drive a manual what so ever.

I want to buy an evo one day but obviously evo's are all manual except for the evo vii gta. If I am to learn to drive a manual how long do you guys reckon I should drive a normal manual car before jumping into something like evo?

drive something with a softer clutch as you'll learn to get the feel for the friction point a lot easier...

or go for a 2-3hour manual lesson with an instructor

i think once you learn how to drive a manual, you will want a manual, so you will get a manual car before you get an evo

You'll easily pick up the basics of manual driving within 2 weeks. Easily.

Depends how you drive the Evo... if you're going to drive it hard, then drive a 'normal manual' car hard first, so that you're missing gears, finding 1st instead of 3rd etc in a car where it doesn't matter so much.
If you're going to drive the Evo like a granny, there isn't much reason why you couldn't jump straight into it... but Evo and granny driving don't gel well...

I just taught the misses how to drive stick in her *cough* Intergra *cough* and it took about 10 hours on the road. Its stock so she didn't have to much trouble, but she jumped into my car *kisses insurance policy* and she had no problems at all.

My old man threw me in at the deep end thou when I was learning... threw me into a 150hp nitroused mini with a quickshifter & 1 tonne clutch... His words were "If ya can drive this bitch, ya can drive any manual" and he was right

I've never driven a manual and I don't know how long it'll take me to to get the hang of it, it's something I gotta look in to. Should get myself a good instructor.

As for how I'am gonna drive, well, it's no fun driving like a granny is all I can say.

My brother in law as a manual barina, I think that's a good start.

man u will have the BIGGEST upgrade if u go to a EVO from a barina...

If you can, learn to drive a manual & get your manual licence (even if you don't drive one everyday)

I learned to drive in an old Toyota Tarago van & then in a Holden Rodeo ute, which are both bloody difficult cars to learn in, after that, anything else is easy as...

Though, I haven't driven a manual now for a few years so when I have to drive one it takes a little' while to register the fact that I have a clutch again

I would recommend getting something with a quick shift, it will make things so much easier for you..

and, its not the same thing.. & you won't get the feel of the clutch, but you can get a good feel for gear changes if you drive around in tiptronic for a while & not rely on the auto to change for you

After I learn driving manual, I might need your help with the conversion too

just don't try and learn with a heavy duty clutch.... still haven't gotten to that stage yet, and my friend wants me to drop off his WRX MY-01 to his mechi... : / having even more trouble trying to drive my brothers s13 down the road to the petrol station...

the clutch is f**king HEAVY!!!!
like... UNBELIEVABLY HEAVY!!!
but OMG its the best feeling for track work and spirited driving on the road
so if u want to drive an evo, take my advice, its NOT A BEGINNRS CAR!!!
trust me, u'll stall heaps EVEN if u are experienced...well on my clutch anyways...
i have sinced killed it with a few 8k launches
and now i'm using an exedy sports organic which is about 30% mroe clamp
feels the same but a lot more drivable
as evos off the line needs abit more than 2k rev to move smoothly or it will jerk!!!

stock clutch? if so then not at all.

I have driven stock evo 6/7/8/9. And I have also driven evo 6/7/8/9's with over 220 kw atw.

The stock evo clutch is not heavy unless u are comparing to a 60 kw 1.2 lt echo.

Even on the moded evos with the heavy duty clutches its not that heavy...however I have a twin plate which IS heavy. If you want to know heavy then drive my car...When I dirve my mates EVO...every second week...its so light and easy to drive. However if u only run a HD clutch yuo cant launch it much as it dies pretty quick....hence why I run a twin...launches all day long.

Oh and BTW manual isnt all that hard once you start getting it going....just take some lessons initially and you'll be right in 2-3 hrs and a guru after another 3hs of driving around in the CBD...
