Hey... Just want to know if anyone has polished their intake manifod???
Mine is really dirty and i was thinking i might give a go with some degreaser then attack it with 1200 wet n dry then buff over with some silvo polish....
Anyone got a real clue on how to do this properly???

Have been looking at this myself for some time.....
A few guys have done it in the UK. Check out their forums....
Looks like you need to go through various grades of wet n dry and then you need a couple of different polishing wheels.
I have seen polishig wheel kits and compounds to go on your drill at Bunnings. Could also try flea bay and get a bargain.
Cheers

Does the intake manifold need to be taken off to do a cambelt change? If not, I'll replace the plugs myself and make my plenum look pretty at the same time.
Nice one Sam.

trying to do the whole thing with wet & dry would be a pain i nthe arse i reckon... esp. in the grooves... i was planning to attack mine with a wire brush drill attachment (soft one at first) and then polishing it with some buffer attachments & metal polish... now i'm just planning to prep & paint it..

Could always just sand it smooth....not polished.
Then powder coat it any colour you want.
How about red? like all the WRX Sti wannabe's.

Just asked my friend about powder coating... This is what he had to say specifically about intake manifolds...
Intake manifolds would probably be around the $50 going by components we have done of comparable size. Colour will also affect the price but I should be able to sneak these foreign orders under the radar. I can do like a basic Satin Black,Satin White or something more extravagant like A 'Prescious Silver Pearl, or Chrome Pheonix Black. If these guys are keen I can arrange to meet up and show some samples. I am in discussions with our current supplier about exotic finishes like candy apple reds and things. I will get you a price on wheels and wecan go from there.
He is also chasing down prices for rims...
