I am just wondering if there is an easy way to tell the difference for mivec and non mivec engines, other then the plastic engine cover

Are there certain things that you can pin point as to what is what?
Mivec

If it still has the stock airbox, the GR will have a MAF Sensor unit attached to the stock airbox, a GPX will just have a pipe.
The oil cap is on the passenger side.
When driving the car you won't mistake the Mivec roar! Oh it is so sweet!
Not that you're going to check, but the alternators are different, GR is 2 pin, GPX is 4 Pin. ECU wiring is different for a few things, again, not likely to notice it.
Check the engine numbers, I believe DStocks has a listing on his site for deciphering the Chassis numbers

And (just to get a few of the GR members fired up) you would notice if you were driving a GR cause they're gutless as hell!
