I had this happen to me ...
Power steering motor had died ... I think it was that.. Or something like it ...
It made a little bit of noise before it went out ... When I turned a corner, I heard a bang... Stopped the car... Saw nothing on the road, and then went to drive on... When I came to a sharp corner, I almost died.. The car was soooo heavy .... And this was my 4 door sedan ....
I noticed then too that the power steering fluid then started to leak, got it to the mechanic, and he confirmed it... Didn't take much to fix ... But then again, it was not a jap import ...

Power steering pump it was... I don't know why I wasn't saying that earlier... lol ...
Not sure what the wrong power steering fluid would do ... Would imagine that it would cost a bit to fix as you would need to flush the entire system ...

Sure its not a snapped belt? Does your air con work?

before the power steering dead, the AC not working.
the hot air works but cold air not, may be run out gas, I dont like AC, so ...
what does the snapped belt mean? my mechanic said the pump problem...

The belt is an easy fix, the belt should cost no more then $20 bucks and it'll take roughly 20 mins to fix.
If someone wants to charge you more then $50 bucks to fix, go somewhere else.
Also from what I heard the p/w steering fluid is the same as the Auto Tranny Fluid.

its the same with most cars, Dexron III or equivalent fluid. i hope you were charged 300 for a new p/s pump and not just the fluid.
if it whines when you turn, it normally means theres no oil in the system, and the pump is running dry. if it doesnt make a sound and its really heavy to steer, check your belt. check all the feed and return hoses for leaks, they are normally the culprit.

thanks everyone, I checked oil which is fresh and full in the p/s tank..
and the AC is working fine, except cold air run out gas, ..
when I turn the wheel, the p/s wheel is so heavy, like push a truck ... my arms almost dead..

time for a new pump then, or maybe get it overhauled. look around before you fork out youe money for them, i'm pretty sure they arent worth $300, unless that includes fitting
