i have a noise that sounds like bearing chatter, coming from the gearbox when the clutch is out, regardless of what gear its in, or not in.
the sound goes away above 2000rpm, it just dissapears, not being masked by the engine or anything else. a friend thinks its the thrust bearing, but cant be sure if its the gearbox itself, as there is no load applied. and when i change gear, the shifter 'clicks' into position. its pretty cool, but probably not good. not sure if its related.

help is appreciated. also, what other mitsubishi's use the same gearboxes and clutches, as i'm trying to find a Fidanza aluminium fly, and local suppliers are as useless as socks for a snake

Willing to lay a $50 thats is the springs in the clutch plate itself. Stock units are notorious for it. Years of torque compression weakens the spring, then it clatters in its seat. Only answer is a new clutch. If it was the thrust bearing, the noise would go away when the clutch is depressed.



For the Fidanza wheel, try this one - Part #161781 has 110 teeth to suit a 7-bolt crank. Friction surface of 228.6 mm. Only way to be sure is take your old one down... you could do it while the box is out & your having your clutch done

The FTO uses an F5M42 gearbox. Any Mitsi with a 6A12 or 6A11 (Lancers or Galants) engine had F5M42 or F5M41 gearboxes. Both have the same bellhousing, so I'd imagine the flywheel would be the same. Just check the amount of crank bolts there are (needs to be 7)
