Noob with a semi-auto question

Hi guys, i don't own an FTO yet, but i'm looking at getting one in the very near future. its the first car from memory that i decided i wanted in high school, apart from your porsche's and lambo's, so i figure now is as good a time as any.

Just wanted to get an idea bout the semi-auto/tiptronic gearbox. as much as i'd love a manual, my gf will need to drive the car too, so the tiptronic is the way to go.

do you see many people have issues with these transmissions? do they have any notorious problems that i should look out for when test driving, or looking at servicing history?

and just generally, what are they like in terms of power delivery? do they do the job?

thanks guys, and i look forward to joining the ranks of mivec :)

Dude on power delivery it all depends on what you are used too.

As with the Auto's (which i have) i F&*ken love it and wouyld go manual others would say they love the manual and wouldnt drive the auto. The tip boxes arent notorious for anything at all, but thats not to say ppl dont have problems it all depends on how well the box has been looked after eg regular servicing.

I have been driving mine for over 4 years now and never had a problem. I predominately drive in manual mode, I engine brake all the time  and never had a problem. As long as you service the transmission every so often (transmission fluid flush, etc) then it shouldn't give you any grief.

Maybe torque converter.

But lets not bombard noobie with sh*t thats not important.

If you buy a tip it just like buying any other box you may have probs you may not just depends on history of car

thanks for all your input guys.

from what i can tell, i shouldn't be any more or less worried about the tip box than i should any other transmission. but its good to know there's no outstanding issues which will need addressing.

as for power delivery, i'm currently driving an auto 88 honda integra, so really, anything is better than that, but after driving some other cars n stuff, i'm looking for something thats pretty responsive..

eThix, how much are you selling yours for? do you have a link?

I'm looking at this atm...

CarSales Link

any thoughts? i'm getting my uncle (panel beater) and his mechanic mate to do an inspection for me... what things should they be checking for? my uncle mentioned a trend of dodgy importers winding back odo's before importing them, so their papers say k's much less than what they are... is there anyway of seeing whether this has happened? just seems the k's are unusually low for a 95 model car.

wow that car is really cheap 8O maybe to cheap...
check for things that are warn, steering wheel, timing belt, seat material etc. because 45k is almost a brand new car! my s15 is almost mint and its got 53k's on it
