Hey Guys!
This is my first post on FTOAUS and what a great site! I'm actually about to become a proud owner of a 2000 model GP Version R when it arrives next week...but I have a few questions for you guys to ensure the import/compliance process runs as smooth as possible for me.
Basically....the car's been paid for, a deposit has been placed with my compliance provider and an import approval granted as well as a scheduled delivery date of 5/3/08.
So my questions are,
1. I'm apprehensive to use a broker to clear it from customs, what's involved if i'm to undertake this personally?
2. Who coordinates the shipping from customs to my compliance provider and how much does this usually cost?
3. Besides the balance of my compliance, relevant customs duty of 10% and GST of 10%, what other costs can i expect?
Really hoping I can get some replies over the weekend guys. Can't wait to have it sitting in the driveway and taking a few pics for yas!
Cheers
Anthony

1) A lot of red tape and bullshit, however definitly give it a go though brokers may rip you off. COntact customs they will inform you what you need etc also a lot of helpful info on the gov. website.
2) Shipping? do you mean towing? is it arriving at the same port as you live? But in what eva case, if you have done this all yourself so far, i would guess it would be YOU who orgasnises getting it to your compliance centre.
3)Theres a wealth of info on the net start googling

Pretty surprised to think you have havent worked this out before purchasing but anyway good luck with sale.

Made some calls today...pretty intense procedure.
I should have the car cleared within 48 hours. I will write up a detailed DIY report for those looking to do the same thing once complete. Stay Tuned for report & piccies.

Let's hope it's in good nick - it's a grade 4 and i'm told the interior is flawless....
It's actually passion red, it wasn't my first preference (I wanted black) but when it came up in such a rare year model...I couldn't resist, and the reds growing on me.
I'm going to inspect it tomorrow at the docks, I'll grab some snaps and post upon returning.

Well Guys...it seems as though I was a bit optimistic when it comes to clearing it from customs! Situation update is it finally (today) got released from customs/quarantine and has been taken to my chosen compliance workshop who I won't mention here.
Issue I have though is the exhaust system is an aftermarket and I require a stock one to be fitted temporarily whilst the car is complied and I can then technically have the aftermarket added upon the car being complied registered. Anyone got any ideas as to where I can purchase/ temporarily loan one?
Cheers

Damn you. Damn you to hell!
you stole my dream car!
You better look after it..i swear, if i ever see or hear about you causing damage to a passion red 2000 model GP-R, i will have to remove it from you.

i've got a complete exhaust system you can have...
only catch is you'd have to pay postage from here to wherever you are, so probably a last resort!
wttc though

Thanks for the replies guys....still tossing up the options.
Nicholas, are you in the "hills" district as in the northwest Sydney region, I'm in the Liverpool area...I could possibly arrange a pickup?
