Hey chaps, been a few threads in the past on putting a DVD player in, but not many pics about or reviews on whether people are happy with them.
Sure more than a few of us are thinking about it, and a decent thread with pics and people's experiances might give us the kick up the arse that we need!
Just a couple of cheaper examples I'm thinking off - both have my main wants: bluetooth, detachable screen and USB connection.
Single Din, 4.3" screen:
Double Din, 7" Screen

if you're running a DVD or 5.1 channel head unit,
i HIGHLY recommend getting a single din centre speaker.
it has the same purpose as the centre speaker on
a home audio set-up, and fills the gap nicely.
should be able to pick up a generic model for around $100
love having a dvd player in the car.
i currently have a plug n play version of Street Fighter 2
hooked up to one AV input,
and the cable for my Nokia N95 plugged into the other.
my next progect is to hard wire a Media Player
with a 400 gig hard drive to it

Liking the idea of a double-din screen more and more... especially if it's a removeable faceplate one so some little pikey don't take a shine to it
top notch

GO FOR IT!!!!. I have had that model in my car for almost a year now and I'm totally happy with it. Takes a while to set up all the features and the instruction book is only suitable for dunny paper. (The trick is to set your stations using the remote ) But the bluetooth is worth it's weight in gold, DVD is fantastic and the USB is SOOO much better than a stack of CD's floating around the car. It can also be attatched to e reverse camera. I also connected a TV antenna so I never miss an episode of Neighbours. Connected the whole lot to two Orionn amps and a Sub which really improves the sound quality. I'll put ap pics one of these days... You can pick one up on Ebay for about $200 from ENEON but I bought mine from an Aus distributer and wasted an extra $150. But for $350 , I'm still really happy with it. I'm in Melb if you want to check it out before you buy

OOPS, I just saw your location and I guess New Plymouth is not within driving distance so I don't think you'll be popping around any time soon

Oh yes I should warn you that they are a bitch to fit and since I had mine in and out more times than a bridegrooms @#*% I ended up cracking my surround, but that was due to carelessness on my part. but basically you need to mount it in a cradle as they sit in front of the surround and not behind like regular head units. This is because it's a 4 inch motorized screen with variable viewing angles.

Any ideas for what i can place underneath my JVC KD-AVX2 DVD player because the dimensions on it are a bit larger than the standard single din and it needs space for the motorised face to flip? I was also thinking of taking out the stereo surround and painting it a colour, could anyone that has done this them me what you did and used?

I put in a Vu meter but it has to go above because the 4 inch screen covers the top of the meter. It did fit below but I didn't like the lookso i switched them around (photo's soon)
