Try CCleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ otherwise format is the best option.

Get rid of vista, it's sh*t.

+1 for re-format, then put XP back on.
Then, use AVG Antivirus and AVG Anti-Spyware, or any other combination of your choice, but AVG is free.
And stop looking at porn on the web!

system restore....restore it to when it had no viruses...you can practically restore it to anytime from when you purchased it.

You don't know much do you?
Vista is better than XP. hands down.
also, vista is safer as long as you use a decent Anti-virus.
IE: NOT avg.

heres what i suggest:
boot into a linux distro and create another NTFS partion.
go back into vista, and backup all the important data onto that partion.
Buy Trend Micro 2008, and use it to remove as many virus's as you can.
Buy NOD32 and use it to get the rest of the crap.
Run CCleaner, and delete everything you can.

Torrent Adaware (not worth money.), and use it to get rid of all the little crap.
Delete ALL anti-virus, and delete everything apart from the essentials for vista..including all the programs, and personal folders.
Boot into safe mode, and re-install Trend Micro and NOD32
Run a scan with both of them.
Delete all non-essential drivers, and re-install the latest.
put all the data you stored on the second partion back onto the main partion, and run NOD32 again.
after NOD32 is done, run Trend micro on the second partion.
Boot back into normal mode, and run another NOD32 scan.
INSTALL FIREFOX if you don't already have it.
Leave NOD32 on all the time (uses 2% of my resources), and run Trend Micro every week.

Now you should have a fresh copy of vista, and a second partion to backup the data incase this happens again.
You can not get any virus's, or spyware with that setup unless you download 20gb of porn from unknown websites.

That setup of NOD32, CCleaner, and Trend micro installed will be awesome..
i've been running vista on that setup for 5~ months now, and being a HEAVY torrent user, i havn't had a single virus.

Hope that helps, and sorry for the wall of text..

..or at least find safer sites!

IMO that's the best piece advice

You seem to be trying to show off your technical abilities where there is no need.

Vista is NOT an upgrade and is not a better option than XP with SP2. Vista is now an official failure as it hasn't provided anywhere near the sales expected, nor the upgrades. The next version of Windows is expect late 2009 and thats simply because Vista is a total flop. Its the new Windows ME.

Also, AVG is a fine Antivirus if its set up correctly and the user doesn't visit dodgy sites or open any dodgy emails. Some common sence, please.

Also, that is an absolutely ridiculous set of steps for him to follow to simply remove some spyware or a virus when a simple format will suffice after backing up his stuff onto an external media like burning a DVD etc. To quote yourself, "you don't know much do you".

BAHAHAHAHA +1 million!!! Vista is a massive POS!

lol @ "you don't know much do you"

Biljobo mate .. I have to agree with everyone about formatting & reinstalling - It's the only way to have 100% piece of mind.

if you're determined not to format - the best you can do is download as many anti-virus, spyware/malware cleaners, registry cleaners & optimisation progs as you can & take your chances.

IF you end up formatting, load a good antivirus/Anti-spyware/firewall BEFORE you hook it up to the net

AVG Antivirus / Anti-spyware are great programs
Kaspersky & Spybot are some other good ones..

Avoid Nortons at all costs.

Win XP SP2 is a much better option than Vista btw - Just get a copy & crack it if you don't want to buy it ;)

If you're serious about not wanting viruses, switch to Linux ;)

Yes based on the rock solid information of:
i think lost my vista cd :(
I can tell that his Vista DVD is lost to the ages. At the moment whatever virus is killing explorer is doing a damn good job of it, and the likelyhood of his/her PC returning to its original state & performance is low.

The best option overall is to get someone that knows a thing or two to have a look at it personally. A mate, a coworker, anyone like that. Over the net so many things can be mis-interpreted or missed. For example, no-one has talked about his error codes, for whatever program they are for.

Now hes also tried Kaspersky, McAfee and PC Cillin. If there are still problems after these three programs then something else is vitally wrong, again suggesting to me a complete format and reinstall is needed.

Before doing so, try these two online based scanners first, which could circumvent the virus detecting installed antivirus software and disabling them or using countermeasures, even if it is a virus in the first place.

Scanner 1: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Scanner 2: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Now both of these are stripped down versions of programs you will have already used but still worth a go.

Finally, stfu yourself.

the_msta_chizz you are really showing your maturity or lack of..

last time i checked this was the FTO australia club

yes you can go the long way to achieve the same results

but why would you??

you seem to be a real vista expert for someone who's in love with linux

you give IT people a bad name

bilbojo - it might be a good idea for someone to have a look at it
it might not be a virus

Viruses don't give you the luxury of an error code ;)
