Sorry i may have posted this in newbies to ( still new to this )
Hello to all
We are relatively new to FTO`s and have been slack in contacting you to say how we are going on my Daughters FTO since our last post,

sorry .
Well after some great deliberation in months gone by we have finally convinced our RWC guy, the trim that exploded was not a RWC item and he finnally passed the car and is now registered. However we now have a more dire problem on our hands i feel.
My Daughter was driving about a week ago with an apparent " little rattle " as she called it at 80ks or so.
I checked and found it had very little oil in the engine. ( i topped it up ). The rattle has now turned into a knock and she broke down and had to be towed home.
To me it sounds terminal ,maybee big ends or valve gear not sure due to the knock being so loud i dont want to run it for to long.
I know without hearing it it is hard to diagnose however anyone with any clues ?
We are located south of melbourne if any one can help PLEASE
I feel we may be up for a new engine or mabee able to repair if i know who to contact for parts
Your responce is much appreciated thanks David & Sam

Sounds like you are going to have to pull it apart to find out. Bennoz or one of the other more mechanically minded members) may have an idea or 2, but its going to be hard to diagnose that one without hearing it.
I can source new parts for you if that helps, but depending on the problem, it may be cheaper going for a transplant.

You might be better off cost wise to get a second hand motor in there. Just a thought, try your local wreckers

You would be ^^^
Gasket kit alone will cost you $500. Ring around some wreckers & get some pricing on a s/hand engine. Dont pay any more than 6 or 700.

Totally agree with above replace the motor
I dont know the price of motors over there but would be definatly cheaper than a rebuild for sure

Thanks for all replies however it gonna hurt either way i feel as the cheapest long ( 2nd hand i might ad ) no manifollds ,injectors, nothing is gonna set me back 1900 cool ones .
Thats just bare bones basic and no warranty.
this is gonna hurt from my end so far .
FTO will just have to go on back burner for a while as we dont have that sort of doh for an engine
With this in mind can i ask please for anyone who has an engine spare that we can purchase to get my daughter back on the road.
I have it on good authority it must be a non mivec, non turbo unit out of a GR
Preferably out of Melbourne however will arrange transport if need from my end
Your help is much appreciated
Thanks Guys and girls your help is and has been invaluable
Kind regs and Thanks David

Have you called EKW?
I know they have a few FTO's on the racks. Don't know if they still have the motors in them though.

Theres an FTO engine here;

Might still be available.. they're closing down.. everything must go, if you offered them $150 they'd probably take it

EKW do have half cuts as you sugested most are panals only however they will and do crated engines.
They have mivec engines on the shelf and only a few non mivec on the way.
Could be early as monday when they arrive
Price quoted also very reasonable i feel and not change over (outright sale ,they dont want your old engine so you can keep your spare good bits ) altho it could be case by case also so ? and under 1k with 6 month warranty
Might be worth keeping this supplier on tap u neva no when you moight need them.
Will also try jap performance re the cheap engine they may have
Thanks heap guys David

Just an update with my Daughters FTO.
Well with your help i have mannaged to track down an engine for the
FTO. Super happy with all your help.
It has been delivered and is a complete ready to place drive plate on and drop in.
How good is this a replacement without c/over.
With out this site i would be probly still lookng for one.
For this and all who posted replies to us we thank you very much.
Hope to be on road with the car soon ( not for a few weeks though coz we r going away to Alice springs )and maybe see some faces behind the names.
By the way does anyone know how to run an engine out of the car before fitment without a second computer
This is somthing i would like to do so i can prove it is a good runner with no problems, not that i beleive it has ),
and should i replace the timming belt before i fit engine as a precaution ( have no real idea on distance travelled on engine before being removed or for what reason either). Any clues

thanks David
