hi all. the fto's infamous transmission has struck again. to cut a long story short im looking for a few opinions on time it would take to complete the following jobs as im about to dispute the bill (hours stent on the job to be exact)
the work undertaken was as follows-
1. swap an auto transmission out on a GR.
2. swap the alternator out (just time to change it out not time to reco one)
3. replace a broken rear engine mount.
4. WOF
Thanks

Just out of interest what was amount of hours they put down for job? you must also remember that workshops generally will put down amount of hours recommended from factory repairers even if the time takes more or less hours

Yeah. I know there is some guidebook going about on what is the recommended hours for each job done and they usually charge from there.

I agree 4-5hrs for the tranny, the rear engine mount half hr absolute tops. Alternator 1.5hrs. WOF should be just a set price regardless on how long it takes but should take no longer than hr. WIth all the stuffing round (lunch breaks, parts organising etc) you will lose your car for a day

Its a long story....
I took the car in' told them it was the trans and asked them to quote a reco or secondhand.
they spoke to a trans specialist who told them it was probably the ecu(apparently they have had experience with the fto's). I pointed them to the forum, pointed out the trans was renowned for being a weak link but told them at the end of the day, they were the experts so i'd follow their advise. they pulled the ecu and sent it away to be repaired. it was returned with a note "sorry we cant repair this". they priced a secondhand ecu and got it in. they fitted it and- surprise surpise, there was still a fault with the trans. the trans shop recommended they do some other "things"(i wont go into detail) but to cut a long story short the labour content came to 22HOURS!
now i have dealt with these guys for years and believe them to be honest. Having questioned the bill I am happy to say they refunded 8 hours of labour and have also offered to do the next service on the car free (injection system flush and tune). they gave me a rundown of the times and it all added up. if they didnt follow the advise of the "specialists" at the trans shop the job would have been finished in half the time.

22Hrs I still would not be happy with that
Have they charged you for faulty s/hand ECU also
Fair enough because they had to diagnose problem it may of taken extra labour but not an extra 18hrs worth thats cost of a complete box
I would be looking into more than just some time off and 'free service'

Hold on, so your saying they originally charged you 22hrs and then reduced it to 14hrs (22-8) or 30 then reduced to 22. Either way 14 hrs is still a long time. You should not be paying for any miss diagnosis eg the ecu and the time it took to replace it. You will have to pay for time to diagnose problem though including the ecu. I would be thinking an absolute max of 10-11hrs for everything.
Forget about the service that will cost them $50. So you could count that as 1hr of labour.
[/quote]believe them to be honest.
No such thing
