FTO AUSTRALIA

Went to put in my new pads the other day... Bloody front left caliper wouldnt come off and broke a ring spanner and almost stripped it trying to get off the lower rear bolt.

So i brought it into work with me this morning and pulled a 3rd yr apprentice aside and offered him $50 to do all four corners and machine all the discs...

The poor bloke didnt know what hit him.. the front left took him an hour to undo and had to use a 1M long breaker bar....

Then the rear left caliper was seized (Has been for a while, i've just been putting it off) so he spent 2 hours trying to disconnect the handbrake cable from it while it was under tension...

He finishes work at 11am on saturdays... he left 30 mins ago thanks to me...

I said another $20 to change my gear box fluid and sh*t...

Ended up giving him $80 for his effort but i got free fluids (Gearbox and Brake) and all four brakes done.

hehehe...

Put a set of average Protex on the rear (they're tiny anyway) but decided to remove the only half worn Bendix Ultimate fronts with the new EBC Greenstuffs...

Holy sh*t the difference is massive... although they're still bedding in, they're great...

And the fluid he used in the gearbox is great too... much smoother changes...

Although i've never done the gearbox fluid before... lol


Anyway, just happy with the new stuff and stoked i didnt have to handle the dramas myself...

That would've been fun on somebody's driveway on a DIY day

Interesting to hear you rate the EBC's over the Ultimates. Im running the Ultimates in the big calipers & they're awesome. Wondering if the EBC will be better again...

I think they are awsome for the price. I had some an upgraded to endless, they went ok but not too many laps, now I have Project Mu and they last the distance easily...not in the fto however same difference.

I'd love to try some Mu's but unfortunately, using an Aussie made PBR caliper, they dont make them for it. Having said that, I've got a huge selection to choose from. The calipers were the same ones used on old HSV's (VR, VN, VS) Commodores - and as such there are a heap of after market options to choose. I've been told the top of the line Ferrodo's are pretty good. Might try them next

My new pads have just finished beding in, so im taking it for a spin today...

Will let you know how they hold up... but results so far are impressive..

And my ultimates were only half worn to so im not comparing worn out ones... (Replaced them as i was doing the rear pads anyway..)

bennoz just installed ebc greenstuff on mine and dba slotted disks.. i love them too

Not sure they are worth the extra dollar but I have them now. I'm using the max500 circirt pads so not recommended for street use at all, squeel like a pig until at the right temp which is hard on the street.

However I found the Ultimates to be ok and for the small price tag its hard to go past them - although I have Mu's on the fto as well...going for ages.. I also used the endless SSS pads which held up for 3 laps on the track however I'm comparing different temp pads to another so it makes it hard overall.

I think with an HSV setup you should have heaps of good choices...they are neraly as common at R33s

My god, what are you paying for all these pads if Ultimates are considered cheap? They're $200 a set for my calipers

$190 for the EBC fronts...

yeh i still rekon that the green stuff pads are better than the ultimates.
all i have is an stock FTO with EBC slotted rotors with the green stuff pads.
btw im not really an Bendix fan.

btw BOSCH australia just bought out PBR.

Any one tried the EBC reds? The poms love 'em... a lot less dust than greens apparently.

Yip been using those ferrodos till my motor went to crap they were awesome Ben......... by the way dont send those pads now seeing as car wont get round track now and with conversion will have to upgrade the whole system anyway

Lol... thats the next set i'll be trying...

These greens leave a fair amount of brake dust... Nothing that cant be fixed with a quick wipe over the rim, but its annoying nonetheless
