i've got a set of shadow chrome rims, but i want to get it finished in a much darker tint.... deep grey close to being black, but still has that mirror/chromy finish.....
got quoted 100$/wheel, thought it was a bit much...
do you guys know how i go about doing this without spending too much???

$100 is very cheap for chroming, if I was you I would do it, but make sure that there is warranty because the chrome might flake off. They will need to do atlease three layers for it to stick properly. I had my girl friend's volk racing rims powder coated for $400, so as you can see you are getting a bargain, BTW where is the place at?

well dunno whether anybody realises this but the chrome trend is starting to die off very slowly so just bear in mind that when it's no longer the 'happening' thing to do in a year or so, it'd be a waste of money now to do it...

i guess what i wanted to do was finish it in a similar colour to your budddyclubs.... well, close enough anyway....
i wanted whites originally but with the type of rims ive got itll look pretty stupid to paint it white..
another option was to sell my rims to get white buddyclubs, but i wont be getting enough for it i dont think....
so my best bet was to get it "chromed" in a very very dark colour??
just reckon itll look good on a white car with the CF bonnet once it's avail...

If I understand this properly, you already have chrome wheels and therefore what you need is a tint to change their colour, not to have them re-chromed.

i do have a set of what was called "shadow chromes"... so they are in fact chromes with a dark tinge.. what i want to do is to 'increase' the tint close to being black...

im scared to paint it myself coz i dont want to stuff it up....

im not quite sure what the process will be to get the result, whether they'll 're-chrome' it (if there's such a word), or paint it... or even powdercoating it..

If you're not going to do it yourself, then you have to be prepared to pay a premium for others to do it, after all it's their knowledge and labour.

It may pay however, to get in contact with the suppliers of this tint and tell them your situation, they may be able to provide you with advice on how to do it yourself, or where to go to get it done properly. At least then you won't be flying so blind.

Yeah its scracy, but its polished not chromed. I think it was $100 each wheel not including center caps.

anyone know if the polish wear off as time goes by?
ie.. does it need re-polishing every year, 2nd year?

It actually cost me $130 per rim to have them polished.The advantage of polishing the rims is that it doesnt add to the weight of the rim.Maintenance is pretty easy,just a regular wipe over with glass cleaner and an occasional polish with autosol or something simular.Once theyve been polished profesionally and regularly maintained they shouldnt need to be re polished

hmmmmmmm can i also add polish don't chip off like chrome cause its not a paint.
