Recomendations For "P Plate Legal" Cars?

Hey guys,
I am considering buying an Fto. I have 9 k saved up.. Does anyone have any recommendations on what car I should buy. If I didn't want to buy an fto what else would you recommend for me to buy? Cheers.

with 9K you could easily pick up a nice fto, or save up bout another 3-4K and get a supra NA.

Yeah i've looked at the Supra NA's there too expensive for me. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

you could try the following:

integra vti-r - there are some nice teg's around that suit your price range
prelude (any gen) - maybe not the 5g, but 3g and 4g fit into your price range nicely
civic vti-r (ek/em1) - hard to find nowadays, but they roughly go for 10-14k (worth a mention lol)
civic (eg hatchbacks) - really cheap nowadays. usually go for under 9K easy,unless you find one with an engine conversion

you could always also go for the 180sx, s14/15, mr2, skylines, supras that are NA, but i wouldn't really bother... a car that is meant for turbo, but does not have one is like a chicken burger without the chicken.

EDIT: but the fto should always be first preference

Supra...too big for an n/a 2j to handle...plus you'll always want the turbo.

a lot of decent Honda's mentioned above.
FTO is nice for a first car and a well rounded package.
Depending on what you're into, some Toyota's be good too. a lot of modded corolla's going around.

IF it was me with 9k to drop on a car, personally i'd find a corolla ae101 with a 20V 4age conversion along with support mods like chassis stiffening, brakes and sussy. These will go for bit under 9 easy and is the best n/a bang for buck i can think of atm, without going too ratty old. If you're not heaps big into performance and jdm, then it won't suit you as much..

But if you...you can't go wrong with something like that... eye opening performance for a first car, cheap as chips to maintain and run and something different to the typical civic etc (not that modded civics aren't cool though).

Just letting everyone know, most state's P plate power restrictions do not just apply to engines with forced induction or more then 6 cylinders.

Any modification requiring engineering (a 'mod' plate) also falls under these rules, so any car with an engine conversion is out.

Falcon BA XT. 9k should cover one plus full comp insurance for it as well as rego etc. Might even have enough for small mods after.

Insurance will be cheap, servicing cheap, it'll pull pretty hard. However, just because it has 4 doors doesn't mean you should bring your mates along. However, you'll also find if you want to go away on trips the thing will be good then too.

yeah it will be great...apart from looking like granpa's car, handling like a boat, and having trim breaking cracking and rattling within a few yrs of leaving the factory.

Me and mates did a survey a yr or so ago and the most common car to be broken down on the side of the motorway was.... yep you guessed it, ford falcons.

Grandpas car. The BA Falcons don't handle like boats, not with independent rear suspension. You're thinking of commonwhores with live axles. As if people around here don't have trim rattles. FTO's interior seems to have held up well in the Aussie sun though I do admit.

As for reliability, the "FTO help" forum isn't used at all is it.

Everything is cheaper if he got an XT, and he could get full comp so hes covered for his hard earned 9k. By all means go an FTO I'm not saying don't, but it sure wouldn't be my choice. Have a look at insurance for one as well Liam before you think about buying an FTO.
