My father in law came for a visit today and I decided to pick his brains for a cheap octane boost solution because he is the head petro chemist at bp refinery in Brisbane I trust his judgement, he oversees and tests the fuel quality from jet fuel to diesel. After explaining to me in great length about hydro-carbons, oxygen molecules and a whole heap of stuff I didn't understand he started to list off the pros and cons of all the consumer available chemicals you can add to your fuel that will cheaply boost octane.In the end he said that the cheapest, most effective and safest would be methonol, no more than 10% on a standard tuned car.... then I asked a pretty stupid question, 'where do I get methonol from'? And he laughed and replied... 'metho'.
So there you go... who's gonna try it first?!

Until it is tried & proved - I definitely don't believe it.
I honestly think no one would be stupid enough to try it.

methanol is a top fuel for drag cars/sprint cars etc
of course it will provide a extra bang in the tank but doesn`t it also attract water?
i have no doubt that the theaory will work but as for safe for a standard motor i`m a little dubious
but if you are so sure i welcome you to be first and tell us how it goes

just tried it I mixed 1L metho to 50L ultimata 98 and I can DEFINITELY feel a differance Terry (father in law) said it will remove moisture from the fuel systems as it absorbs water and it in turn is absorbs into petrol

year I trust him he's a proper scientist not just some petrol head that thinks he's a scientist... how much will a dyno test cost?

Thats been commonly used in south east asia for a long long time. You get noticeable power gain with less mileage.

Get methanol from from most race fuel suppliers. We get ours from http://www.greengoanna.com.au/The_Green_Goanna.html

Dunno if I'd be using it all the time, it'll do a hell of a job on your spark plugs.

My old man uses it in his race mini (with a 1.3 Suzuki Swift GTi motor) but he is running 13:1 compression.

I asked him about moth balls and he sed thats paradichlorobenzene and is one of the impurities he tets for in jet fuel .. he sed it will work quite well in auto fuel but will gunks up your car fuel systems

Could you ask him whether you could use a refined liquid paradichlorobenzene for the same results?..

you can get methanol injection systems that squirts it into the intake

Did you purchase some race fuel or did you use a bottle of metho?

just a bottle of metho witch is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (95%) and methyl alcohol (%5).

While it may offer some slight performance gains up front. You never know what sort of long term effects metho will have on your fuel delivery system, engine and wallet.
