Painting Brake Calipers

I've got some nice new shiny rims for my car now (I'll post pics up soon when I can be bothered). The new rims and tyres look good, but I now need to paint the brake calipers since they are spoiling the look a little.

Now onto the actual question:
Is it important not to get any paint on the discs?

Do I need to pull them off, paint them and then reconnect them and flush the brake fluid?

If I were to just leave them on and paint them, would it just be fine to wipe off any overspray with turps/metho?

Is it possible to just be lazy, spray them and do some braking on a nearby quiet street and just let the brake pads remove any overspray?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Just want to know how anal I need to be about the job so that I can do the appropriate preparations beforehand.

just throw a rag over the discs, it wont blow off if you are just using a spray can. might wanna use heat-proof paint like V.H.T

Was going to paint the hubs as well to prevent the ugly surface rusting that you see there. A rag won't really help me for those.

Eww Tacky. Whack GPvR stickers on your FTO whilst you're at it?

i saw some discs somewhere that fit between the rim and the rotor and completly cover the disc brake and caliper. it was black so looks like there are no brakes. wouldnt be too hard to make either.

Not tacky at all. Was actually considering them too.

You should get them Tippin, then tell me if they are good or not ;)

this is how i painted mine.

1. Remove wheels
2. Degreased calipers
3. wiped degreaser off caliper
4. Lightly sand the caliper
5. Primer layer
6. 2 x Coats of brake caliper paint

the disc and rotors, dont worry too much about them, i just taped them up with some masking tape to prevent any paint from getting on em and underneath the calipers. But yeah pretty easy! btw get those brembos and let me know how they fit!

Doesn't matter if you get paint on the discs as soon as you brake the paint just comes off, so you dont need to spend ages taping it up.

yeap thats true, thats why i just roughly slapped a few strips here and there just to make me feel like i dont have deal with it later! even though i did manage to get some on the discs, it does come straight off.

I've done it both ways.

Analy stripped everything off & degreased, stripped & primed:

Or just throw a rag over bits you dont want coloured & spray away.

At the end of the day after a solid drive / track day they all end up covered in cooked brake pad dust & look like sh*t
