hi guys it appears that im in deep sh*t now...
i just flew back from melb for vacation. When i wanted to drive my baby out this evening... i realized my clutch pedal was extremely loose, feels like it's not connected to anything at all. Cant shift gears too...
i can put the gear into position when i turned off the engine. But once i tried to start with 1st gear engaged, clutch pedal down, the engine stalls... couldnt really start it. The car moved forward a tiny bit and went off. Feels like smth jamming inside.
wht could have cause this problem... linkage btw the pedal and clutch? or clutch itself?
by the way i realized my gearbox is leaking oil... strange thing is i just had my gearbox serviced.
anyone encounter this problem before? is there anything i can check before i send it to the workshop? please help me im so lost. Thanks for reading

Will wager my first born the leak you see is from a $100 clutch slave cylinder unit thats got shot seals..
First call would be to Kempys

yip clutch is hydrolic operated, fluid leaks out of seals
no fluid=no clutch= unable to change gears or engage clutch while in gear

I've just had the same thing happen to my car yesterday.. Clutch all of a sudden has stopped working - it won't engage properly.
I was able to limp home by forcing it into gear, but it was very notchy, now it won't move into gear at all unless I turn the engine off, move into gear & then rev the engine high enough.
The clutch pedal is extremely shakey & shuddering when it is fully released & I think it was the clutch slave cylinder in the engine bay that was vibrating / shuddering as well
I'll be ordering the clutch slave cylinder from Kempy's ASAP, but I have had some other problems with the car as well that I'd like an opinion on;
Gearbox / Clutch problems, including shuddering through the accelerator during 3rd & 4th gears and clutch shudder when taking off in 1st
Any ideas?

That sounds more like a shut clutch plate that a blown cylinder mate..

I found the picture of the clutch slave cylinder you posted & when I checked mine it didn't look like it had the spring connected .. it may have busted off - Would I be right in assuming that it might explain the shuddering through the pedal & why the actual slave mechanism was shaking as well?
I'll be getting it towed to a workshop on Monday to get it checked out, so with any luck I won't be up for a brand new clutch..

There is no spring on the FTO slave cylinders
And if the slave is gone or going, the only symptom of that is that it will be difficult to get it into gear.
Shuddering is a whole new ball game, I hate to say it, but I reckon the box will be coming off.

Totally agree with ben, as I said in jamies thread about his clutch.

I've taken it to the workshop & the guy "had a look at it" ... he literally jumped in pushed on the pedal & said ..they're going to need to replace the clutch.. and it would be
$660 for labour (as a ball park figure, could be more, or less - but I got the impression it would be more)
Why he couldn't tell me that over the phone before I drove my car 15km to get it there I have no idea (except in the hopes that I'd just leave it there to get the work done)
I drove my car back home again that afternoon, where it will be staying until I can check around & get some more quotes & some more advice from trusted mechanics.. I may end up taking it back there anyway, they seem to know their stuff & apparently make good custom uprated clutch kits.. It just seems like they might be a bit dodgy & I might end up with a lot of extra charges they're not telling me up front..
Can someone give me an idea of what would be involved with getting the gearbox out? From what I understand of it, you hoist the engine disconnect gearbox from it etc & drop the gearbox out the bottom.. Is that right?
Is there any reason why they'd need to take apart any of the turbo setup in order to get it out? I would have thought they wouldn't need to touch it.. As far as I can tell, the piping isn't in the way..
Other places are quoting at around $400 + "more" if the turbo setup is a bitch to work around..
As for clutches, a couple of places make Uprated Sports Organic kits with apparently tougher internals which I can pick up for between $530 - $570 which should be good for around 300kw, 40% increase (They said any more & the gearbox would become the weak link..) and Race brakes have quoted on their uprated kit, touting an increase of "over 100%"

- from memory, $680 + postage $30
Thanks in advance for any help guys

Without seeing some good pics of your rngine and just going off what i can see in your sig (which is f**k all) i would say YES, they will need to remove some of the turno stuff to get at bolts on the gearbox.
Yes they would drop the gearbox out the bottom

$660 is not a bad price. Im using the sports organic plate with an EVO III 1 tonne pressure plate & all up it was $420 to buy... so add $xxx for labour & thats about right.

$660 seems the norm for clutch replacements these days.
Im assuming the $660 includes the cost of the clutch itself and not just the labour, I can only imagine how hard it might be for them to work around the turbo setup.
