compressed air car

my mate and i were having a conversation today about the car that was developed by i think chinese or japanese people that ran on compressed air that was bought out and patented by americans to prevent it from being completely developed.

we began talking about how if we had developed a similar thing would we sell it to people who would cease the development of it or would we continue the development of it

it got me curious as to what other people would do as well so pretty much my question is

if you were developing something that would eventually benefit mankind (i say eventually it would destroy the economy and cause mass unemployment but would be better in the long run) but you would not profit from it would you
a) continue to develop it
b) be paid out to cease developing it (if so how much would you settle for)

If you were to develop it, you'd suffer the same fate as the guy who got his car running on water - an 'oil related' death.

Haha, the fella that got an engine running on hydrogen in a small west coast southern town here in NZ in the late 80's disappeared. Rumours were that he got killed which is BS. It turns out that he is in the states as of now living a life of luxury after selling it to one of the big oil co's (apparently BP).

A French company makes something similar, they use it in forklifts and other indoor vehicles. I saw it on Beyond 2000/Tomorrow so it must be true... The only downside was that it has a short range.

I thought it was the French company use it in Cars (they had to use some type of fiber tank to hold the air in case it exploded in an accident so shrapnel wouldn't go everywhere) but a guy in Melb use's it in the forklifts in the food markets
