this is really horrible but it made me laugh uncontrollably during class today
there was psychological experiment performed on an orphan kid
whenever he did something wrong a scary noise would be played
in the end the boy ended up being so scared that he would spend the whole day curled up in a ball in the corner
at this point the psychologist stopped the experiment
they could not reverse the damage

Lol, Psychology, what a joke. Wasn't so long ago that they thought just sedating and lobotomising people was a really good idea to fix them haha.

Firstly, its spelt leech, secondly they are still used today and thirdly, I kinda think using a leech is slightly different from removing the brain......
Its like saying.
"sh*t, you have broke your arm. No matter we will just cut it off."

Thanks for the reassuring doc.
no worries, that's what I'm here for. So, any other problems I can reassure you about?
no, no that's it. um... so it'll just grow back in a bit will it?
... i think I better come clean with you about this.

so brad, I'm guessing 1st yr physc then? you guys covered the electric shock experiment they did in the 70s yet?
simon, all science is a constant learning process, I agree physc is full of holes, but so is everything else. and it'll get less and less like witchcraft and butchery as we learn more, remember once upon a time we believed we had different coloured blood (and the colour difference showed our personalities "true colours); we believed the world was flat; we believed adam sandler was funny.
phsyc is a new thing, so of course we are going to f**k up, on that note, have you seen the hooked tool they use to lobotomise ppl? how awesome did they look!!

does
Yeah actually; it's very different because Leeches remove toxins in your blood, a very viable medical practise.
Also, I bet you didn't realise they still purposely put fly maggots onto peoples wounds to remove clean them and eat all of the dead flesh. My Dad had it done and said it felt "weird"

weird movie, would be a understatement
psychology hasn't really contributed much to mankind as much as the "fixed" sciences. Don't really consider it great but Im sure it has it's place in the world.

dam you got me with leeches haha
yeh 1st year i think its sick
imo it cause as many problems as it solves
but i have learnt how to reduce the risk of having homo kids

no offence intented
but actually at our lecture people people could take so much offence because of it, cause we learn about all the disabilities like serible pausi, downs, etc
and the put *~delightful!~* people in the category, not meaning to put them in as a disability though
i love harlow, have nothing but respect for that man

please, dear god, tell me you were lazy when you wrote serible pausi- please please please.
i dont even think its worth correcting.
leeches are also used to stimulate blood movement.
i found the fluffy white cotton ball study cool.

just making the point that psych is a relatively new science, so what we know about it is comparatively less.
although that comment should've been targeted more at FTEvolution than you (thought it was you that made the first anti psych comment, only realised it wasn't you just now as i read back over it)

Good way to prove what his parents did to him while he was with them hey?
Sometimes its like:
Sorry dad sorry sorry sorry sorry i won't do it again, i'll pick it up, i wont touch that i'll sit down and shut up. I'll do what you want so you like me. *stare/contempt mode activated* -dad- OI YOU PIECE OF sh*t PICK THAT UP. DONT EMARESS ME IN FRONT OF MY FRIENDS. etc
I had like a minor case of that when i was growing up. No anger.. just basic fear when i did anything. The outcome is you turn out like a german, you learn things in one go, you can't dance, you walk like a robot and you continue the fear process whenever you do anything. But people feel fine when they're loved. Best way to come back to reality and away from the past and future is to meditate.
People laugh when they see something stupid htey can relate to but that boy may be like that for more than 10-20-30+ years or his whole life.
