WTB: FTO full car..

Hey guys,

Well you all know I'm new here and I haven't got a car yet.

So here's my chance at looking for one.

Looking to buy an FTO GR for approx $4500.

Might seem a bit low, but not asking for much. I want a sensible car but with some nice modern looks. Don't need any power and performance - brother owns 180sx's and etc so that's all the fun I intend to use.

The car must be in v.good condition as I don't want any trouble in fixing it up. Hoping for an FTO to be my first car for its smooth drive.

I'd like the car to have:
Triptronic auto/manual
Sunroof? - Do all of them have one?
94-96 model
All working electronics - windows/climate etc
CDplayer or somesort.
Startup every time without worry.

No flashy things or performance, looking for a cheap goodlooking sensible FTO.

Thanks in Advance..

ADELAIDE SA ONLY!

Bono

Edit: If someone in Adelaide is selling, and would like a PS3 I would be glad to trade to PS3 for the price of the car to be lowered by $500 or so - It's a PS3 slim 120gb + controller + 3games.

Pretty simple, you won't be picking up an FTO for that price that doesn't have issues.

Expect a high mileage FTO with roof rust, noisy tappets and an oil leak or two for that kind of money....

Closest I could find to your budget, you may be able to work it down a little more.any way to stretch the budget?

Yeah I'm aware of some minor problems like that. Just want something that is not so horrific though, just needs to start up every time and show no driving problems. Few scratches and faded paint won't stop me.

Yeah thanks for that Katie, and in the SA topic. I was looking at that FTO and really considering it. Going to check with my parents and then get an inspection with a mate to sus it out :)

$4,500 your bound to have engine problems etc. just save up a little more and $6,000 should just scrape you in for a drivable car

I concur.
These cars are horrid to find parts easily and cheaply.
You may save money on buying the car, but will spend big soon as things start to break in a month of ownership.

Only reason I bought my RVR for that cheap is because it was unregistered, in another state, and had a common engine to easily get parts for. Can't say the same for the FTO.

Good luck

Keep in mind also that you still need money to maintain it, insure it, register it etc. by the sounds of it if you're only budgeting for $4,500 the FTO might be out of reach for now

And then the alternator will go....then youll get a flat tyre....then youll need your timing belt done....then some angry geese will rip of your window wipers...have some spare savings lying around incase!

All of those other payments to the car is covered. Already thought of those ahead with spare cash to maintain it and insure + registration.

Probably why I'm asking for such a low price because I'm using the extra money to do all those.

Thanks for mentioning it though.

Mate, I would say hold out. If you're prepared to wait a little while, you just never know what might come around.

I've always maintained you get what you pay for, but sometimes people are desperate to sell and you might just get a bargain :D

i got mine for 6,500 (was going for 8k) about 8 months ago or so, engine done only 130,000 but had oil leaks, needed new clutch etc and now the air con is broke too, i reckon your better off going with no sunroof as i am lead to believe most sunroof models get roof rust.

IMO opinion just keep looking around for ftos, and if you see one you like make an offer even if you offering 1-2 below the price they are asking for, you may get lucky
ill keep my eye out for one for you

All FTOs manufactured before 1997 are prone to roof rust, regardless of the presence of a sunroof or not.

IMO = In My Opinion. IMO opinion is an epic fail of English.

haha didnt realise i wrote opinion after it
you always seem to pick me up for everything

hmmm really about the roof rust?
i thought it was common, but much more common in the sunroof models?
cause my fto hasnt exactly had the best owners and yet i have no roof rust
i remember there was thread about it not to long ago about roof rust and most people were talking about the sunroofs, or i may have just dreamed it all up

All FTO's are actually susceptible to rust. I've since discovered its a myth that they changed sealing glue at that time. In fact all Mitsubishis are prone to it. My mechanic saw an Evo X roll into his workshop the other day with 2 big rust spots where the roof seals are...

Thanks for the headsup everyone.

Have seen a few mitsubishi's with roof rust.

Now to help me find a car :)

The rust in sunroof models is worse because there are more places it happens and its harder to fix, but its equally prevalent in both. It only happens to pre98 models before they replaced the glue they used to put between the subframe and the roof skin. As to why some have it an some dont. Its most likely due to the conditions each car has been kept in during that time (near the sea/dry, under cover/outside).

Jesus pete, can't you give him a break? Do you have to give him sh*t about everything he writes? Just ignore it if you don't like it.

Or is there something we don't know about your feelings towards him?
