Hey guys, it's as the title says. I want to get the auto fluid drained, flushed and replaced. I was quoted $229 from Queensland Automatic. Is that a reasonable price? I have no idea about quotes with this type of work. Thanks

It really depends on the job they do man.

3 types.

1) Drain the oil off the pan alone then fill up.
Cheapest but you only replaced less than half of the ATF. (Most of them still inside the torque converter)
There are many sh*ts inside with 60% of old oil inside as well.

2) Drain the oil off the pan. Plus, drain the remaining oil off the ATF cooler line. (Put gear in N, D, to flush the gunk out)
This way you replaced most of it but still not all. (replaced about 80%)
There will still be some gunks and sh*ts inside.

3) As per type [2] but after a drive of few rounds, drain and replace 2nd time.

Type 3 is the proper way to change ATF. This ensures 99% ATF replaced with new oil, plus flushing all sh*ts out of the gearbox. This requires 10litres+ of ATF.

So the price you got quoted could be for Type 1, Type 2, Type 3.
Most mechanics do Type 1 and rip you off.

I learnt my lesson when i had my 1st service. Didn't ask for quote, just drove in and left there.
Payed $420 when picking up my car. (Replace ATF + Engine oil + filter)
Questioned him how the f*ck it cost $420. He said he flushed the ATF system twice, used more than 10 litres of ATF, and used fully-syn for engine oil.
Still a big ripped off though.

Yeah man, no way I would pay $460 (mainly coz I don't have that much at the moment ). I booked it in for a full trans service for $160 which includes draining, flushing, refilling and (I'm pretty sure) filter.

No, that is not entirely correct.

A flush means that they will completely replace all the fluid in one hit. It can either be done by machine or hand. Its hard to explain but what they do is drain the fluid while topping it up at the same time, if you get my drift. Ahh f**k it I am going to sleep head hurts.

My mechanic charges me 30 bucks, me providing the fluid and filter. Should only take about 6-7ltrs and about 15 minutes to do it. What he does is undo the lines under the radiator, turn on the engine and most of the fluid would drain out.

Case of beer!

Yep that is classified as a fluid change not flush

Right got it all done with filter flush, the works. $160. Seems to have made it better but not completely eliminated the problem. I'm hoping it's just coz it was first drive after the change..

Get ready for a rebuild! I've experienced the delay problem just before my torque converter went twice!

Do a manual conversion, I have a spare f5m422 gearbox, needs a little bit of work though.

It's k my full service fixed it peeps ^_^ only happens very occasionally now.
