Whats the use of a mivec controller? Will it make the car faster? How much does it cost for one to be installed?

Mivec Controllers allow the user to set the rpm level at which the engine changes to mivec (low cams to high cams) Factory settin for this is 5500rpm from memory, but don't quote me

Changin this settin can either provide u with more power at a lower rpm level (lowering the rpm level at which it switches) or providin better fuel consumption (raising the rpm level at which it switches)

Not sure what their worth brand new but i think there is one for sale on ebay at the moment, just type in fto in the ebay search

oh and apparently they are pretty easy to install, i think there is only one plug that goes into the ecu but again don't quote me

so u mite b able to install it urself, i wouldnt expect it would cost much to get it done profesionally though as it wouldnt take long at all

it has been well documented that changing the MIVEC cutover point will actually make you lose power.

frankly i wouldn't bother with them unless i have major porting/cam work done on the cylinder heads.

if you install a MIVEC controller it has to be tuned properly (on a dyno)

tuning should take a few hours of dyno time so you will need to budget for that

vafc II (my friend got one for his dc5 for $480 new from japan i think) is that like an ecu like unichip? because it manages fuel and mivec control? would you think there would be say 5kw increase on tip gpx? or better to go with other performance chips?

so stephen you were asking some manufaturer to make a performance chip design for fto werent you?

what would you buy? or do?

is this vafcII worth it for that money?

I have one in my car....
And yes you can use these to change the mivec point as well as change the intake of the amount of fuel into the engine by plus or minus 30% for every 1000 rpm.

So if you add more fuel, you will definately feel the difference but it doens;'t mean it's the best option.
Just cause you chuck in heaps of fuel doesn't always make the car go faster....

Also, changing the mivec point is uselss if you move it forward, that is, before 5000rpm. For the mivec to really have an effect, you need enough momentum....if you don't have enough speed, the point of mivec will actually make the car slow down a little...

So the point is that you need a dyno to use it wisely...however, none the less it's fun to play around with....

Mine is an older field model and up until last year it costed almost $1K just for the part.
I got it for free so I have it...if I had the money I would have spent it on some thing else!

i heard that instead of increasing fuel some guy was decreasing fuel cause fto runs lean???? dont know

so you are saying say 600$ for the unit is not worth it? better buy something else?

well i have a VAFC at home i haven't installed (needs MIVEC adapter) ... depending on how we go building some sort of ECU / EMS replacement i'll decide its fate...

if you've got money to burn you might want to do a VAFC and then do a computer later... however this computer will be specifically tuned for the FTO and will handle MIVEC all in one package. so there is no need to purchase a chip/ems and a mivec controller...

you will need some patience however as we don't expect to have anything for a couple of months, and it will have to be a good enough mod "price v's performance" before i'll put my name on it..

but what would i do???? i'd wait and see what happens over the next 4-8weeks.

i'm doing my best to ensure all mods are affordable... it will depend on what price i can negotiate
