FTO AUSTRALIA

Hey Guys,

I got an FTO as a part payment back in Nov/Dec. When I first went and looked at the car we found an issue where the thermo fans were running continuously therefore the temp was sky rocketing when idling and under heavy accelaration, there was also no water running through the bottom radiator hose it was cold. So the guy I got it off replaced the temp sensors, problem solved worked ace. Up until now. Last two days, I travel about 45kms down the hwy to work, when I'm going down the hwy at 100kmh it sits on its regualr temperature. I get into traffic on my off-ramp and it goes up to about 3/4 and sits there. I get off the off-ramp onto the road and drive again and it goes back down to normal? It's been doing it the last couple of days. I sat it outside on idle when I got home from work today for about 8 mins or so it went a bit over 3/4.

I'e checked fluids and is all OK, water is running through both hoses. Any ideas on what I could check or what the problem is? I'd assume if it was the head it would be using water?

If its the head there will be white milky stuff where you pour the oil in

Replace therostat flush coolant put in some good coolant and see if that fixes it ( did with mine )

If there's milky stuff under the oil cap, you have water mixing with the oil. Aka - a blown head gasket.

Check that both fans are still turning on. Sounds like one of them isn't.

Yeah both of the fans are running. Checked the oil this morning, no milky substance and it's not chewing any water.

Thermo sensors were replaced 2 months ago with a fresh coolant flush. Should I do it again to see if it changes anything?

Top radiator pipe is a bit swalloen, but still runs water through it fine.

Maybe water pump?

It will be a bitch if its your water pump as its part of your timing belt

For the sake of under $100 ild replace the therostat and flush it and put good coolant in
Mayb while your at it flush the radiator to could be a blockage in that

If none of that works then you will be looking at a bit more money to get it fixed

Pulled it to bits last night. Thermostat was stuck. So fixed that. Still to no avail. To find the radiator blocked. So it will need a flush, depending on the severity maybe a new one. But I'm glad its not the head...

Try a reverse flush mate and see what happens.

Mate same thing happened to mine. I just pulled the radiator out and flushed the sh*t out of it. and then new thermostat and some good coolant and it sits just below a 1/3 and never moves ever lol

Yeah mine sits between a third and halfway, more leaning towards halfway generally.

Yeah mine used to creep up to halfway and then further if i didnt stop only at highway speeds though. Thought it was a blown headgasket but just turned out to be a bit of crud in the radiator.


Will probably need to be professionally flushed at some point, but until the situation arises again im not worrying.
