HID???

Hi Guys,
Looking at upgrading my Current 35W HB4/ HB3 HID setup.
I have seen there are 55W and also 100W setups.
Im all for overkill, however I want to make sure that it will actually operate and not turn the headlight casing into a microwaved chip packet! (melted crisp shrunk goo!)
Is the FTO 12V or 24V and does anyone have or have used the 100W setups.
I have always like the 8000K kits as I like the slight Blue tinge to my car.
Any input would be much appreciated guys...
This was the eBay setup I was thinking of...?
And can you use one for the low beam HB4 and one for high beam HB3? 2x 100W kits?

Any reason you need to go to a higher Wattage.
the 35W kits are already above the offering of a standard 55W halogen globe.
You go for 55W HID and you're more or less making spot lights.
By the way FTOs are 12V, don't know of many cars that are 24V, that more a truck thing.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.
Do you think the heat generated from a 100W ballast / bulb would melt the wiring and plastics in the headlight housing?
anyone tried it... if not perhaps I shall be the first...

You would most likely have to run new wiring with relays and separate fuse links.
The oem wiring is not designed to handle that much current.
Guarantee you'd fry the electrics in no time if you did try.

Unless you are in the bush and need the extra brightness, please do not blind other drivers.
Especially if you drive in hilly places, or places with a lot of speed bumps.

I reckon go the 55w for low beams as i reckon it would melt the projector casing and your safe with the wires.
Id give the 100w for the high beams as the casing is built for high output/heat and with the wiring as you never really have the high beams on for that long typically,
unless you drive around at 1am in the bush, I reckon you'd be right.
I also think that those ebay units wouldn't be sucking the 100w anyway, just like if you bought a cheap power supply for a PC thats rated at 1000w your probably only getting 600w.

Good call!
funny you say that, i just bought a PSU through ebay, and saw all the massively cheap ones 1500W etc for like $80.
opted for a 1000W corsair
Still would love to know if anyone has used a 100W unit for low beam..
I like people to be stunned by my car like a dear in headlights, including the cops and hopefully their radars

SILVER GPX, how low is that car of yours on the DP...?
What wheel size are you running and can it clear speed bumps etc no problem? those veilside front nose ends are so long and problematic for scrapeage if you dont angle the car right ...

Ah nope... FTO's have projector headlights... unless you adjust them with the intent of being obnoxious

Lowest springs you can go, crossmember is like 60mm haha. And there 17's with 40 tread height. 55mm on the little side parts on the front bar. And yes i can clear mini speed bumps,
im very good at angling, LOL sometimes when im going out of driveways i have to go in the complete opposite direction im going and then turn once i get out on the road.

I know there are still situations where you would just go "Nah! Im not doing that!"
