Has anyone ever changed there cars gearbox bearings?
I was wondering wether if it was hard to change and if I have to pull the engine out to get to it. My michanic made it sound very hard and is charging an arm an a leg for it

Bennoz has done the main bearings in his box.
The engine does not need to come out to remove the gearbox.
The gearbox does have quite a few bearings in it and if they are replacing all of them then it can cost a bit. I paid $700 to have all the bearings in my box replaced but I removed / installed the gearbox myself.

i couldn't find my post i did earlier this year on the humming noise my car was making. i have now found out its my gearbox bearing.
is it hard to change them bennoz? its a 1995 gr trip tronic gearbox, $700 its a lot better than $1100 but i think he didnt want to do it becouse he made it sound so hard so he just quoted high
since im kinda semi unemployed at the moment i got plenty of time to try and attempt to do it if its not too hard. my mechanic skills are as high as a caveman's knowledge though

My quote of $700 was for a manual gearbox which is a lot simpler and did not include them removing the box from my car (and my car taking up space in their garage) as I did that myself in my garage.

I've never done a tip.... can't imagine it would be too hard thou.
However, as mentioned above, you need to get your gearbox out, be buggered if Im pulling another one out on my driveway (that isnt mine anyways

)
