No power to stereo?

Was driving home from work today and the stereo turned off! Its an aftermarket stereo and there are two 12" subs connected with an amp
I got the roof rust fixed the other week and ever since then the subs haven't sounded as 'clear' as usual. Also the previous owner wired it in himself so I have no idea how it works
Interior light still works and so does air con. I checked the fuses in the engine bay and there all fine and also checked the fuse on my amp and that is still fine.
So my next step is to check the fuse on the back of the stereo?
I don't really understand subs and amps etc but has this happened to anyone else before?

I had the same issue. Check the wire coming off your battery to the main power fuse for your amps. Mine had burnt out (the wire) on the input side of the fuse.
Do you know how it's set up? Could help us figure it out.

Check you earth's as well. If it aint either of the two previous quick fix Ideas then see below.
But when ever dealing with issues like this, start at the source of the problem and work your way back to the battery. Buy yourself a 10 buck test light from super cheap, pull the stereo out and test power at head unit and then sub. If no power there then you need to track the wire back down it's path to the battery. If you have power then it there is a issue with either the unit (fuse is most common) or earth.

My bet is on a loose earth.
I had heaps of trouble like that for some time.
Always find a good earth,
Step 1) check fuses
Step 2) check earths
Step 3) check power leads
Step 4) local audio store..

Took the stereo out today, checked the fuse....was fine, then checked power....still power, then checked the earth and got a spark. So moved the earth and now its working fine
I changed the stereo surround a few weeks ago and I moved the earth but looks like it had slowly become loose
